Jason Russell Memorial, Lucas Oil Speedway next for HMT

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. (May 7)—The USRA Heartland Modified Tour presented by Real Racing Wheels makes the trek back to Lebanon Midway Speedway in Lebanon, Mo., on Friday, May 9, and then onto Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., on Saturday.

The Friday night event will be extra special as we honor and remember the life of long-time racer Jason Russell. To celebrate his impact on racing in the area, the 32-lap feature will pay $3,002 to the winner. It is a privilege to be able to be a part of this event and we are looking forward to hitting the track on Friday.

“Jason and I met around 15 years ago,” said HMT flagman Mike Striegel. “I started helping him with his modified bodies shortly after we met. We were really close and talked a lot, and not just racing. His main love was the water! He loved the water and having a great time with friends for sure. He started spending more time on the water instead of the racetrack. I will always remember him pulling up to our wedding (which was on Lake of the Ozarks) in his loud, twin big block boat. He even gave a few a ride that day. His smile on every trip is something I will never forget! He said he was coming to the wedding in his boat and that I'd know when he did! He was a special person to Denise and I. We talk about him often and miss him a lot.”

The Outlaw Kids Racing Tour will also make a stop at Midway. Mike and Denise Striegel will welcome young race fans for personalized pit tours, treats and lots of laughs. Be sure to come early and get your child registered for the tour. For more information about the Outlaw Kids Racing Tour, visit their Facebook page.

The gates open at 5 p.m.Friday, with hot laps slated for just after 7. The first green is slated for 8. For more information keep up with Midway on Facebook.

Saturday, May 10, the Lucas Oil Speedway welcome’s all mom’s free courtesy of Vietti Marketing. There will be $2,000 will be up for grabs for the Heartland Modified Tour. This will be the first of two stops in Wheatland this season for the tour.

Heartland Modified Tour points leader is Brandon Givens. Givens is yet to pick up a win in the 2025 season, but his consistency keeps him 17 points ahead of Shadren Turner. Dean Wille, Jason Pursley and Dakota Dale complete the top five in the standings. Turner and Dale have appeared in HMT Victory Lane this year.

Although it is early in the 2025 campaign, a fierce field of competitors is expected to keep the points battle interesting. No doubt, a stellar show awaits fans this weekend.

Saturday night the grandstand opens at 4 p.m. Hot laps are slated for 6:30, with racing to follow. For more information about tickets, VIP suites, camping and general track information, visit; www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
