Mullens dominates USRA Heartland Modified Tour in Hutchinson


HUTCHINSON, Kan.—The Kansas State Fairgrounds half-mile dirt oval roared to life on Friday as Salt City Racing hosted their season opener with a bang.

Headlining the action was the USRA Heartland Modified Tour presented by Real Racing Wheels. In the fifth race of the sophomore season for the series, Tanner Mullens led all 25 laps of the USRA Modified main event, securing a victory with a commanding 1.149-second margin over runner-up Paden Phillips.

Mullens, from Wichita, started on the pole and never relinquished the lead, showcasing his prowess on the historic track where multiple generations of the Mullens family have made their mark.

Phillips, hailing from Chanute, battled to second, followed by Dean Wille of Warrensburg, Mo., in third. Brandon Givens—the current points leader with a 17-point advantage over Shadren Turner—finished fourth while Chevy Coleman of Wichita, rounded out the top five.

The competitive field featured drivers from across the region, with notable performances in the qualifying rounds and heat races setting the stage for an electrifying main event.

With the cancellation of Saturday's show at the Caney Valley Speedway, series officials set their sights on the weekend of May 9-10, On Friday, the Midway Speedway in Lebabon, Mo., hosts the USRA Modifieds while the series returns to the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., on Saturday.
