Koski conquers Legendary Opener at Cedar Lake Speedway

Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., came alive Saturday for The Legendary Opener featuring the high-octane USRA Late Models.
Originally planned as a two-day spectacle, Friday’s races were washed out by rain. Saturday’s action more than made up for it, delivering a thrilling showcase of skill and speed between the familiaryellow guard rails of the 3/8-mile high-banked oval.
In the USRA Late Model feature, local hero Kody Koski electrified the hometown crowd with a masterful performance.
Starting from the pole, Koski set a blistering pace, but the race was far from a runaway. Two-time USRA Late Model National Champion Lucas Peterson of Stockholm mounted a fierce challenge in the closing laps, pushing Koski to the limit.
With heavy lapped traffic clogging the track, Koski navigated the chaos flawlessly, holding off Peterson to claim the checkered flag.
Peterson crossed the line in second, followed by two-time and defending national champ Cade Nelson of Hermantown, Minn., in third. Larry Fitzsimmons of East Bethel, Minn., was fourth, and New Richmond’s Patrick Kletschka finished fifth.
The Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series feauring USRA Late Models returns next Saturday, April 26, for a six-division show presented by Fastenal.
