Gulbrandson grabs eighth USRA Hobby Stock National Championship
Dustin Gulbrandson of Sioux Falls, S.D., captured the USRA Hobby Stock National Championship in 2024 and joined a mighty exclusive club with his eighth title since 2014 during this year’s Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series action.
Gulbrandson racked up points and wins at the Deer Creek Speedway, Fairmont Raceway, Hamilton County Speedway, I-90 Speedway, Lucas Oil Speedway, Mason City Motor Speedway, Mississippi Thunder Speedway and Rapid Speedway.
The 34-year-old, who also captured the 2020 Summit USRA Nationals, ended Dylan Clinton’s two-ear run at the top of the class with 21 wins in 44 starts. He finished in the top five on 38 occasions and 40 times inside the top 10.
2009 national champ Chris Hovden of Cresco, Iowa, gave Gulbrandson a run for his money but settled for a runner-up paycheck at season’s end. Decorah, Iowa’s Josh Ludeking was third.

Gulbrandson will collect $2,500 from an overall points fund of more than $100,000 and contingency awards worth over $40,000. Including national, regional, rookie and track points funds, nearly $1 million is returning to racers at season's end.
Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national points for all divisions include each competitor’s best twenty (20) points nights during the 2024 campaign. Each competitor must have competed in at least one-half of the events held at any one USRA-sanctioned racetrack to be eligible for national points funds.

Awards Banquet approaching: The annual USRA Awards Banquet is Saturday, January 25, inside the 12,000-square-foot Star Pavilion at the Ameristar Casino Hotel located at 3200 N Ameristar Dr, Kansas City, MO 64161.
