2003 Night of 1000 Stars includes Race of Champions
BRITT, Iowa. -- The anticipation is building for the 9th annual Harris Auto Racing’s “Night of 1000 Stars” on Thursday August 7 at the Hancock County Speedway in Britt, IA. This $2000 to win modified spectacular will bring the best of the Midwest modified drivers to this four tenth dirt oval. An added incentive to the drivers in the race is $900 in lap money in addition to the posted purse. Area sponsors have donated a $30 bonus per lap for the lap leader in each of the 30 laps of the feature. Racing industry builders, dealers, and manufacturers are sponsoring various contingencies and awards.
Some changes and additions have been made to the program this year. This is the first year that the show will be non-sanctioned. Any tech questions can be addressed to tech official Tim Weiland at 641-843-4230 or at weilfam@mchsi.com.
Modified participants will draw for their heat position coming into the pits. Those drivers that qualify for the feature through the heats will redraw for a Fast Dash starting lineup. The qualifiers will then have to race for their starting position in the A feature instead of completely relying on the luck of the draw. The Fast Dash results will determine the starting position of those qualifiers in the A feature.
But the biggest and most exciting addition to this years show is the KLGA/Hancock County Speedway $5000 Challenge and the Race of Champions. KLGA Radio of Algona has teamed up with the speedway to offer this $5000 bonus.
The winner of the Race of Champions will have first option of accepting the $5000 Challenge to start in the back of the A feature. If that driver wins the A feature he will receive a $5000 bonus on top of the $2000 posted prize. If the winner of the Race of Champions declines to take the challenge, the option will move to the second place driver and on back until one of the drivers in the Race of Champions accepts the challenge or all participants in that race decline.
All past winners of the Night of 1000 Stars and all past Modified Bud Shootout winners have been invited to participate in the Race of Champions. “Night of 1000 Stars” past champions are: Ron Jones, John Logue, Kelly Shryock, Kevin Stoa, Johnny Saathoff, and Keith Schmitz. Modified “Shootout” past winners are: Mark Noble, Tommy Myer, and Al Hejna.
