Knudson takes first ever feature win at Hancock County Speedway
BRITT, Ia. (May 31, 2002) - Kevin Knudson fans have something to cheer about.
Knudson of Fertile gained the lead with just three laps remaining in the Limited 360 Modified class after Shawn Plymesser of Forest City and Ed Green of Algona connected with the wall down the front stretch. Knudson's win was his first ever in two years of racing.
Following him across the finish line was Todd Hanson of Clear Lake and Chuck Gatewood of Eagle Grove.
In the IMCA Modified class, Joe McBirnie of Boone took over the top spot from John Logue of Boone in lap 20 of the 25-lap race after Logue exited the track with car problems. Bill Cook of Algona followed McBirnie to the finish line while Brad Bakken of Garner captured the third spot.
Travis Hoeft of Forest City took the checkered in the IMCA Stock Car class leading from green to checkered. Hoeft took a commanding win over second place John Pletcher of Britt and John Campbell of Belmond for third.
Travis Hoeft and Kevin Hoeft of Garner each qualified for the Big Bud Shootout with a one-two finish in the IMCA Stock Car Cash Dash. The shootout will take place on August 9 and is sponsored by Kabrick Distributing of Britt.
Darrin Legore of Rockwell was presented a trophy by Swenson's "Do it Best"
Hardware in Britt after capturing the win in the Econo Stock Class.
Schroeder Racing Products of Iowa Falls sponsored the night of racing. Following Legore across the finish line was Matt Bryne of Woolstock and Cory Gansen of Clear Lake.
Shane Monson of Clear Lake continued his dominance in the IMCA Hobby Stock class after stripping the lead from Jeff Lodin of Kanawha on the high side with just four laps remaining. Lodin followed Monson to the checkered while Randy Hadacek of Britt came in a close third.
Powder Puff winners for the evening were Monica Olsen of Garner in the IMCA Hobby Stock class, Linda McNamara of Rosemount, Minn. in the Limited 360 Modified class, Sherice Caruth of Webster City in the Econo division and Sarah Kruger of Owatonna, Minn. in the IMCA Modified class.
Racing action continues next Friday, June 7 with Kids Night. Kids are invited and encouraged to come out and experience some racing fun with car rides, games, activities and prizes. Games begin around 6 p.m. with car rides for the kids at 6:30 p.m. All rides, games and activities are free to all children. Hot laps begin at 7 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m. Pritchard Auto of Britt and Garner and Chrysler of Forest City will sponsor the evening's races and trophies.
