Schultz picks up first USRA Modified feature at LA Raceway

LA MONTE, Mo. -- Entering its tenth season, the LA Raceway kicked the year off with a grandstand full of fans and a great field of cars as Terry Shultz of Sedalia snatched up the first feature win of the season in the USRA Modifieds.

A rocky start sent numerous cars from the outside row to the hot pits to get sheet metal removed and flat tires fixed in the Pitts Homes of Warsaw USRA Modified feature event, including Schultz.

Tim Setzer of Archie and Warrensburg's Dean Wille had strong runs throughout the night until Schultz, from the back of the field, knocked on their doors on lap 3.

A caution on lap 7 gave Schultz the advantage he needed.

When the cars saw the green flag again, Schultz took the high side and sailed around the top of the track taking the lead into turn 3.

With just seven laps left in the 20-lap feature event, Wille took his modified to the pits and Schultz had stretched a comfortable lead over the field of cars.

Schultz made the win look easy with Setzer, Chad Lyle, Colson Kirk and Aaron Marrant finishing in the top 5.

LA Raceway will host another night full of entertainment Saturday, April 7, as the USRA Modifieds, B-Mods, 305 Sprints, Street Stocks and Hobby Stocks hit the track for the second night of race toward the season fast track championship.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 and racing at 7:30.
