Stoa captures first 2001 win in Britt

BRITT, Iowa (May 18, 2001) - Racing action continued at the Hancock County Speedway on Friday, May 18. KLGA Radio of Algona sponsored the event.
Kevin Stoa, I.M.C.A. Modified driver from Polk City, showed his fans that he still has what it takes to be a champion as he dominated the feature, leading the 25 lap event. Following him for the checkered was Jon Wood of Britt, Scott A. Anderson of Mason City and Mike Hejna of Clear Lake. Hejna took the Modified Challenge after winning the cash dash and last weeks feature, choosing to start the feature at the rear, attempting a win for an added $500 bonus. Hejna worked through the 22 count field, but couldnąt overpower the top three, settling for an impressive fourth place. Jon Wood of Britt qualified for the Big Bud Shootout on August 10 placing second in the cash dash.
A familiar face greeted the crowd after the I.M.C.A. Hobby Stock race as Shane Monson of Clear Lake took the lead in the twelfth lap, holding on for his third win out of three since the season started in April. Monson currently leads the class with a perfect 120 point total. Randy Hadacek of Britt came in second, Dan Haugland of Forest City third and Earl Webner of Garner, fourth.
Amy Woodward of Mason City continues to excite the crowd, leading the race until Skeeter Paris of Boone took the lead and the checkered for his third consecutive win at the Hancock County Speedway. Following him was Travis Hoeft of Ventura and John Pletcher of Britt.
Josh Omans of Garner led the pack of Limited 360 Modifieds for his first feature win this season in Britt. Lance Gardner, also of Garner finished in second while Larry Cook of Moorland placed third.
In the Econo Stock division, Lance Deal of Fort Dodge place first while Nathan Weig of Hubbard came in second and Wesley Houser placed third.
Racing action continues next week for the Jennifer Steinlicht "Friends of Racing Memorial" sponsored by KIOW radio in Forest City. The rescheduled Race Day in Britt are sponsored by the Britt Chamber of Commerce who will team up with KIOW of Forest City to bring the afternoon and evening events. A Car Show will start at 2 p.m. until the racers head to the track around 5 p.m. Stop down and cheer on your favorite pit crew in the Pit Crew Tire Changing Contest beginning around 4 p.m. on Main Street in Britt. Some contest and games are planned for the kid’s after school. Car show and contest awards will be handed out just before racers head to the Hancock County Speedway for another action packed night of racing. Hot laps begin at 7 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m.
On Monday, May 28, Memorial Day, the annual National Kidney Tour for a Cure race will be held in Britt. Racers from around the Midwest will converge at the track for bragging rights that they too are "Still the One in 2001" and a boost in the Kidney Foundation points list. Races begin a half hour early with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and races at 7 p.m.
