Traugott takes USRA American Racer Modified Series win at Elk City
Cole Traugott won the USRA Modified main event.
The USRA American Racer Modified Series rolled into western Oklahoma’s Elk City Motorsports Park on Friday night, and a strong field of 30 cars took over the 3/8-mile clay oval.
Woodward, Oklahoma, ace Cole Traugott led the 25-car Wehrs Machine "A" Feature to the green. Second-place starter Sam Osman battled Traugott early on before another Oklahoma native, Kale Westover, charged toward the front.
After a caution just past the halfway point, Traugott ran back out to a big lead while Westover worked to track him down again.
A flurry of late-race cautions gave Westover multiple opportunities to pass for the win, but when the VP Checkered Flag waved, Traugott earned a sweet trip back to victory lane at the track where he claimed last year’s track championship.
Heat race wins went to A.J. Sharpensteen, Jon Herring Jr., Chase Hatton and Traugott.
Saturday at the Route 66 Motor Speedway, in Amarillo, Texas, the USRA Limited Mods will also be running an added money show with $1,500 going to the winner.
This is in addition to the USRA American Racer Modified Series presented by Day Motor Sports headlining the night with a $2,000-to-win main event.
The gates swing open at 5:30 o.m. and the show starts at 7. It will be live on RacinDirt.tv for those unable to be at the track.
