The American Racer USRA Modified Series powered by Day Motor Sports will be back in action this weekend for the seventh and eighth races on the 2024 docket.

Friday, the tour makes it's debut at Elk City Motorsports Park in Elk City, Oklahoma, and then returns to West Texas staple Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo on Saturday.

Series points leader Joe Duvall is the most recent winner, scoring the checkers back on May 25 at Salina Highbanks Speedway in Pryor Creek, Oklahoma. He holds a narrow lead over Odessa, Texas, pilot Philip Houston who will race in a pair of shows, with Amarillo closest to his hometown this weekend.

Houston is the most recent USRA Modified winner at Route 66 with a trip to Victory Lane on June 22. He's ran there three times in 2024 so far, with a runner-up and third-place finish to his credit as well.

“It was pretty good there at Amarillo the night we won,” said Houston. “The track was nice and smooth and slick, with a little cushion on on top. You could dart around it and run all over. They had a good field there. They run a real good show, the grandstands are always full!”

Houston races a Contender Chassis, which he builds. The program started with USRA Limited Mods a decade ago, and Modifieds in 2023.

“We have a few out there and really like the car,” he continued. “We're in ok shape equipment wise, but we did have an engine catch fire at the Ark-La-Tex show and we're still rebuilding. It has us a little behind, it was brand new.”

Chase Hatton is just outside the lead duo in points and ready to pounce in third. Gary Christian fourth currently and Sam Osman rounds out the top five in championship standings.

Friday night's show at Elk City is part of their two day Summer Sizzler Weekend. The grandstand opens at 5 p.m. with racing slated for 8.

Saturday at Amarillo, the USRA Limited Mods will also be running an added money show with $1,500 going to the winner. The gates swing open at 5:30 and the show starts at 7.

Both races this weekend will be live on RacinDirt.tv for those unable to be at the track.
