Heartland Modified Tour on tap at two USRA staples
A pair of Kansas City area tracks are on the docket this weekend for the stars of the USRA Heartland Modified Tour presented by Real Racing Wheels. On Friday, the tour makes it's only stop of the season at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., and then an hour up the road is the home for Saturday's event at the I-35 Speedway in Winston, Mo.
It will mark the first of two visits to Mike and Kyle Johnson's I-35 Speedway, which is slated to host championship night for the series this fall.
Lakeside has long been a staple for the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series and hosts many national and regional events, including the Summit USRA National Championship presented by RacinDirt.
I-35 is a staple track in USRA boasting one of the largest event schedules each year and is a former home of the Summit USRA Nationals just like Lakeside Speedway.
“Both tracks were quick to support the new tour and we're really looking forward to a great weekend,” said Series Director Erick Chesterman. “The support we have received from our host tracks, racers and USRA has blown me away this season. I just want to take a second and say huge thank you to everyone who has played a role so far.”
For Saturday's event at I-35 Speedway the event made possible by Team Spray Foam and Generational Buildings.
Both events will be carried live on RacinDirt. With live and on-demand coverage of every event from the USRA Heartland Modified Tour, USRA American Racer Modified Series plus much more, including exclusive interviews, instant replays, multiple camera angles and more, subscribe to RacinDirt for live streaming on all of your devices.
Coming into the weekend, Tyler Wolff holds a narrow 18-point lead over Chad Wheeler in the season-long points battle. Brandon Givens, Henry Chambers and Dakota Dale fill out the balance of the top five.
Through seven events so far, there have been five different winners. Terry Phillips is the only driver to capture the VP Racing Fuels Checkered Flag on multiple occasions.
The most recent winner is Joe Duvall who won a wildly entertaining feature two weeks ago at the Salina Highbanks Speedway in Oklahoma.
