Rain hits again Friday night at Britt
BRITT, IA (July 30, 1999) - It was the same song, Rain, Rain Go Away, just another verse, on Friday night at the Hancock County Speedway in Britt. Clouds started to develop in the west about the time the pit gates opened at 5:00. A light mist began to fall when hot laps started at 7:00.
That bank of clouds moved out and the sun came out and races were started by 7:40.
Drivers and track personnel worked together to get the qualifying heats completed.
By 8:15 the sky was starting to darken in the west. By 8:30 all the heats were completed and the first drops of rain began to fall. The Limited 360 modified dash was completed before the sky let loose and the event was called with features for this event sponsored by the Land of Hob Auto Parts to be completed next Friday August 6 at the beginning of the show.
The evening was set up to be a real stock car shootout with three of the top ten drivers in the National IMCA stock car point standing, signed into the back gate, ready to battle it out for bragging rights on the track. Jeff Anderson of Atlantic, the current national point leader had traveled to Britt to challenge Wade Eastman of Nora Springs, currently second in national points, just three points behind Anderson, on Eastman's home territory. Mark Elliott of Webster City, currently in sixth in national points and leading the Napa Winner Series for Stock Cars was also on hand to add a little zest to the action. Should make for an excellent feature, if all participants are able to return to finish the action.
Following these four makeup features, we will go into qualifying heats for the scheduled August 6 show sponsored by Unicover of Britt. The Jackpot Junction Midwest Tour for IMCA Sprint Cars will join the regular four classes that compete weekly at the track.
This will be a jam-packed night of racing action for drivers and fans. Double features in all classes, plus Sprint cars in action on this fast oval, plus a possible return of a stock car shootout, if Anderson makes the trip to complete the rained out feature and battle for double feature wins. Admission due to the increased purse for the Sprint show is $8.00 for adults, $2.00 6-12. 5 & Under Free. Hot laps 7:00 Races 7:30.
Don't forget the two day Hobo Day racing extravaganza slated for Thursday,August 12 and Friday, August 13 when the Harris Auto Racing's Night of 1000 Stars returns to Hancock County Speedway for the fifth year. This will be an IMCA sanctioned $2000 to win modified show along with the NAPA Winner Series for IMCA Stock Cars on Thursday night. You will see the" Best of the Best" drivers in the modified and stock class in the midwest competing in this show. Hot County K-97 of Fort Dodge is associate sponsor for the event.
Friday August 13 racing action continues with the "Big Bud Shootout" for Modifieds sponsored by Kabrick Distributing of Britt. Modified drivers have been qualifying all season for this $1000 to win event. This Shootout will be the last event following a full night of racing for the four classes competing. Friday features pay $500 to win Stocks, $250 to win Hobby & Limited 360 Modified. Modified feature is $450 to win, plus modified challenge, & last chance dash qualifying for the $1000 to win "Shootout". Action starts each night with Hot laps at 7:00 and races at 7:30.
