Myer, Ringham grab first features at Britt

BRITT, IA (July 9, 1999) - Two first time feature winners for the season, and two new qualifiers for the "Big Bud Shootout" highlighted the results of a fast paced night at the Hancock County Speedway on Friday July 9. On a cool July night, fans were treated to some exciting three to four deep racing in the corners, as drivers stepped it up going into the last half of the season.

Tommy Myer of Blooming Praire, Mn was able to fight off some of the bad luck that seemed to dog him this season and broke loose from the field to take a commanding lead and an impressive victory in the modified class. The real battle developed for the next three spots as Ron Pope, Mike Hejna, and Rich Lewerke battled to the front. Lewerke had to qualifiy through the B feature after developing mechanical problems in his heat.

He charged through the field in the A feature and finished in fourth after challenging Pope and Hejna who finished in second and third.

Scott Olson of Ellsworth and Jimmy Davis of Janesville, Mn both were new qualifiers to the Big Bud Shootout which will be August 13. Olson won the mod dash and Davis finished second. Olson declined the "Challenge" and that will remain at $800 for the next show. Ricky Jo Smith of Algona won the B feature and finished tenth in the main event.

Kelly Tapper of Boone, looked impressive in the stock car feature that went from green to checkered for the twenty lap event. Tapper took the lead midway through the fast paced action overtaking the pole sitter, Cody Miller of Mason City. Wade Eastman of Nora Springs, always a threat, captured second with three laps remaining, but time ran out and Tapper held on for the victory, with Eastman in second, Miller third, and the fourth place went to Ed Wolf of Algona, making his first appearance this season.

Jim Ringham of Mason City was another fresh face in the winners circle taking the hobby stock feature win. He started on the pole and held off all challenges, leading the entire event. Dan Hanselman of Algona, a hard charger, nearly got him at the end, but Ringham held on for the victory. Hanselman was trying for a clean sweep, but fell just one position short of that accomplishment, finishing in second.

Larry Cook of Fort Dodge, continues his winning ways in the Limited 360 Modified class, taking the feature win and leading the track points standing battle at the moment. Cook is the defending track champion in this class. Bryan Frayne of Garner got by Don Reimers of Rockwell at the white flag to take second.

Tapper, stock car feature winner, spun the Contingency Connection wheel for the stock car class and Craig Berhow and Jeff Schluetter were the winners. Myer spun for the modified class with Bill Cook and Pat Graham the winners. These four drivers have now won contingencies posted by 107 national manufacturers. The amount they will receive depends on the products they are using and the decals they are running.

Racing action resumes this Friday night, July 16, when the rescheduled Jackpot Junction Midwest Tour for IMCA Sprint Cars comes to Britt to join the the regular weekly racing show. Grandstand admission is $8.00 for adults, 6-12 $2.00 5 & Under free.
