Chateau Raceway Fall Nationals opener to Cummins

LANSING, Minn. -- Friday night started the final weekend of racing for the 2011 season at Chateau Raceway as Action Engineering of Rochester presented the first of two days for the Fall Nationals.

Before the show a moment of silence was offered in memory of George Rhoe and Dave Geerdes who both passed away this week. Both were vital members of the racing community and will be sorely missed.

Josh Angst took off from the pole position and led early in the USRA RHS Modified feature. Nick Herrick and Doug Hillson had a fierce battle for second with Todd Scharkey in the mix. Brian Shaw spun and was hit hard by Greg Jensen and they collected Chris Gilbertson on lap 2. Both Jensen and Shaw were eliminated in the wreck.

Angst had a good lead as Herrick got past Hillson for second. Scharkey, Jason Cummins and Ben Mattick went three wide for fourth as Hillson again pulled alongside Herrick for second. Two quick yellows on lap 8 slowed the field.

Cummins went to the top of the speedway and did he take off. Cummins drove to fourth on lap nine and Hillson was again second. Cummins them dispatched Herrick on lap 13 for third. Cummins then wasted no time and closed in on Hillson for second. The top 3 were very close at this point.

Cummins zoomed past Hillson on lap 16 and then drove past Angst on lap 17 for the lead. Cummins checked out from there for his sixth win of the season. Angst finished second with Hillson third. Herrick ran in fourth with Ben Mattick in the top 5.
