Tyler Townsend won the USRA Modified main event.

Breaking a five-year winless drought, Tyler Townsend was calm and collected behind the wheel in scoring his first American Racing USRA Modified Series victory. It was an emotional victory lane celebration for Townsend who was joined by members of his family in the Ark-La-Tex Speedway winner's circle.

“I knew Chris (Henigan) and Cade (Dillard) were going to be coming,” Townsend commented. “I could see Chris's nose a couple times. That was a tough race. This is only my third race in seven months. It was good to get a win. I knew (Henigan) was gonna race me clean. We're really good friends. It's just great my family is here.”

Townsend redrew the No. 1 chip in the redraw and had a few late feverish restarts. The final one—a green-white-checkered dash to the VP Racing Fuels Checkered Flag—cemented the win.

A total of five Midwest Sheet Metal cautions slowed the pace.

For the second night in a row Henigan—a former ARMS champion—gave it everything he had and came up just one spot short. Dillard passed eight cars and wound up third while Ralo Pilkington was fourth at the line and Broc Bowen completed the top five.

An impressive field of 43 cars signed in for competition Saturday.

The five qualifying heats were won by Chase Hatton, Jason Webb, Henigan, Pilkington and Bowen.

Next up for the ARMS presented by Day Motorsports is a Memorial Day Weekend pair of shows. Friday, May 24, the tour heads back to the Arrowhead Speedway in Colcord, Okla. Saturday, May 25, action moves just down the road to the Salina High Banks Speedway in Salina, Okla. Both shows will be ran in conjunction with the Heartland Modified Tour presented by Real Racing Wheels.
