Ark-La-Tex Speedway next for American Racer USRA Modified Series
This weekend the American Racer Modified Series Presented by Day Motorsports rolls into Donnie Powers' Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, Louisiana for a two night tilt. Highlighted by Saturday's $2,000 to win USRA Modified main event, the best in the region will be ready to battle it out.
With weather giving fits to a large portion of the country this weekend, the fields should be stout in all divisions. USRA national points are on the line, as well as series points, with drivers vying for their portion of the $32,000 year end points fund.
New for 2024 is promoter Kenneth Chamberlain overseeing the track. Having been around Donnie Powers for a decade and a half and racing for 30 years, he is ready for the new challenge, on the other side of the fence.
“We've made a few small facility improvements over the off-season trying to be more fan and racer friendly,” commented Chamberlain. “Tech will now be in the infield, we have poured a new concrete slab. We added some rock on the tracks exit, in case of weather, so it'll be easier to get around. There are also some new smaller concession stands inn both the pits and front side to offer some new items to our menu. We also put a little new clay on the track too.”
The weekend gets underway tonight with a practice scheduled from 6-9 PM. Friday and Saturday competitors will hit the track at 7:00 PM. Friday pays $1,500 to win and Saturday is $2,000. Both nights will be streamed on RacinDirt.tv for those wanting to take in the action from afar.
With only two events contested this far, Rodney Sanders leads the way in the standings. Both he and Jake Gallardo visited Victory Lane back in Mid-March at the Vado Speedway Park in Vado, New Mexico.
For more than two decades, the United States Racing Association has attracted more and more racetracks and dirt track racers each year through fair, logical and cost-effective rules accompanied by an organization that puts the racers, racetracks and their fans first. During the 2023 Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series, more than 60 of America's finest dirt ovals hosted more than 1,000 nights of racing.
