CRESCO, Iowa (July 28, 2002) - Schroeder Racing Products sponsored tonight's races at the Cresco Speedway.
Starting off the night's racing action were the Modifieds. Heat wins went to Larry Schmidt, Darin Duffy, and Shawn Ryan. Next to take the track were the Hobby Stocks. Picking up heat wins were Kevin Donlan, Darin Walch, and Steve Holthaus.
Picking up heat wins in the Stock Cars were Lynn Panos and Mike Kelly. Randy Koshatka and Justin Fueling picked up Hornet heat wins, and the Factory Stock heat winners were Robert Malli and Dan Konmen.
The Cash Dash was next on the track involving the top two finishers from the heat races. Darin Duffy took the checkered in the Modifieds, Darin Walch in the Hobby Stock, and Lynn Panos in the Stock Car. Both Walch and Panos accepted the Gordy's A Challenge, which placed them in the back of their feature race.
The Hornet feature was next on the track, rushing along to try and beat the rain. Steve Dwyer started in the pole position and held on to that lead all laps to take his third feature win in a row. Gary Gulrud, Justin Fueling, and Russel Einck were all battling for the second spot. Fueling, who was in Cresco for his first time tonight, picked up second, followed by Gulrud and Einck.
Dillon Anderson took the pole position in the Factory Stock feature and was looking to keep that lead until the checkered flag. Kurt Krauskof and Keith Eischens got around Anderson midway through the race and took over the battle for the lead. With two laps remaining, Krauskof went around Eischens to take the checkered. Eischens finished right behind him in second, followed by Anderson and Lee Nuehring.
It took awhile for the Modified feature race to get underway as there were three cautions before one lap was finally counted. Corey Dripps started in the twelfth position and was definately the fast car of the night, taking the top spot near the mid-way point. Darin Duffy wasn't going to let him win easily, and took the second spot, looking to battle with Dripps. With four laps left a caution came out. On the restart, Dripps went high and Duffy went low, but Dripps held on to his spot and crossed the finish line first. Duffy was right behind him, followed by Shawn Ryan and Dan Bohr.
The Hobby Stock feature was next on the track. Darrin Walch accepted the Gordy's A Challenge and started in the back of the pack. He moved all the way up to sixth, but then went to high and dropped six positions. He did bring himself back up to fifth, but not enough to win the challenge. Steve Holthaus was back on the track after a week off, starting in tenth and being the mystery driver. Holthaus moved up through the pack fast and took the checkered. Tory Reicks finished second, Dan Christopher was third, and Carl Colsch finished fourth.
The Stock Car feature was next on the track, but after four laps it got called due to rain. Their feature race will be held next week, starting in the same positions that they ended tonight.
Join us next week for the finish of the Stock Car feature, along with a regular night of racing action with Service Master/Merry Maids sponsoring the races.
