CRESCO, Iowa (June 23, 2002) - ABC Graphics of Cresco, Iowa sponsored tonight's races at the Cresco Speedway.

First to the track were the Modified heat races. Heat winners were Darin Duffy, Corey Dripps, and Josh Secor. The Hobby Stock heat winners were Tim Gebel, Dan Christopher, and Bob Praska.

Jeff Schluetter, Kevin Bidne, and Mike Bergan picked up heat wins in the Stock Cars. The Hornet heat wins went to Danny Cole and Scott Spilde, and Robert Malli picked up the Factory Stock win.

The Cash Dash was the next event on the track, featuring the top two drivers from the heats. Darin Duffy picked up the checkered in the Modifieds, Dan Christopher in the Hobby Stock, and Jeff Schluetter in the Stock Cars.

We had two consolations tonight; one in the Modified class and the other in the Hobby Stocks. In the Hobby consolation, the cars were very spred out when Jeremy Schaufenbuel lost a tire and barrel-rolled seven times before coming to a stop in corners 3 and 4. Schaufenbuel walked away from the accident just fine. Darrin Walch ended up taking the checkered in the Hobby consolation and Jamie Aikey picked it up in the Modifieds.

Danny Cole was the Mystery Driver in the Hornet feature but got penalized after a caution and was sent to the back of the back. Cole definately had a fast car though, as he made his way back up through the pack to take the checkered flag. Garry Gulrud finished second followed by Scott Spilde and Randy Koshatka.

Lee Nuehring started in the last row of the Factory Stock feature and was making his way to the front of the pack, but Jimmy Brozirt was just to much for him. Brozirt picked up his second feature win tonight. Nuehring, Keith Eischens, and Robert Malli rounded out the top four.

The Modifieds were the next feature race on the track. It was a very exciting race, watching Todd Schaufenbuel, Dean Reiss, and Dan Bohr battle for the lead early on, as well as watching Darin Duffy fly around the track on three wheels, as his left front tire was far off the track the whole way around. On a caution on lap 9, Bohr was sent to the pits, along with Duffy, which narrowed down the race for the lead. Schaufenbuel was moving away from the pack as he crossed the finish line first, followed by Josh Secor, who passed Jamie Aikey on the last lap. Tim Heins came in fourth.

Steve Hothaus was looking for his second feature win in a row in the Hobby Stock feature. There was a big battle for first between Holthaus, Darrin Walch, Dan Christopher, Brian Irvine, and Jeremy Moellers. Walch took over the lead at the half way point and held onto it to cross the line first. Holthaus crossed the checkered second, followed by Irvine and Christopher. Upon inspection, Irvine was disqualified, giving Christopher third and Moellers picked up fourth.

It was a long race in the Stock Car feature as it took nearly ten minutes to finally get one lap in. Mike Vsetecka had a fast car and was pulling away from the pack but Jeff Schluetter had his eye on the front and tried everything he could to bypass Vsetecka. Vsetecka had the edge though, and held off Schluetter by inches to take the win. Schluetter finished second, followed by Scott Bauer and Don Rude.

Join us later this week as the Mighty Howard County Fair presents two nights of racing action. Wednesday night is the Late Model Invitational plus the NEI Mod Tour, plus regular night for Hornets, Hobby Stock, and Modifieds. On Thursday night is the United States Modified Touring Series plus regular night for Factory Stock and Stock Car. Races start at 7:00 both nights. See you there.
