CRESCO, Ia. (May 19, 2002) - The Lime Springs Herald and Riceville Recorder sponsored tonight's races at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa. Once again tonight, there were no Hornet or Factory Stock heats due to the low car count. So first to the track were the Modifieds with heat wins going to Tim Heins, Corey Dripps, and Troy Langowski. The Hobby Stocks were next to take the track with Brent Tweeten, Darrin Welch, and Jason Schlagen picking up the heat wins. Heat winners in the Stock Car division went to Mike Kelly, Brian Tank, and Scott Bauer. After the heats came the Cash Dash, which involved the top two drivers from each heat. In a five lap race for the money, Todd Suhr took the checkered flag in the Modified class. Blaire Benzing took it in the Hobby Stock and the Stock Car win went to Scott Bauer. Following the race, the winner has a choice to take Gordy's A Challenge, which places you at the back of the feature. You then have to win that race, starting in back, to take home a set amount of money. Bauer was the only driver to accept that challenge tonight. Leading off the feature races were the Hornets. Jonny Honda Severtson came all the way from LaCrosse to show off his car, and that he did. Severtson came away with the checkered flag 3/4 of a lap in front of the second place car. Randy Koshatka finished second, followed by Scott Spilde and Adam Ewing. The Factory Stocks were the next to take the track. Jimmy Brozirt started in the pole position and held onto that spot the entire race, picking up the checkered flag for the first time this season. Lee Nuehring, Kurt Krauskopf, and Dustin Panos rounded out the top five. It was a long and exciting race in the Modified feature. There was a caution flag on the first lap, sending one car to the pits. On the restart, there was another caution, which involved eight cars and took five out of the race. With six laps to go, there were only seven cars remaining on the track, all of whom wanted the win. Dan Bohr was the one to take that win, followed by Randy Geisler, Tim Heins, and Darin Duffy. Blair Benzing was a substitue driver for Patty Fosaaen in the Hobby Stocks and took away the win after battling with Steve Holthaus from the half way point. Holthaus ended in second while Jeremy Moellers and Tory Reicks took third and fourth. In the Stock Car feature, all eyes were on Scott Bauer as he started at the tail end and tried to make his way to the top to pick up an extra $200 in the Gordy's A Challenge. Bauer couldn't quite pick up the win but did end up in fourth. Lynn Panos took the checkered after finishing fourth last week. Kevin Bidne took second and Mike Bergan finished in third.
