Derick Grigsby won the USRA Limited Mod main event.

Chris Henigan, Derick Grigsby, Justin Whitehead and Maddison won features in their respective divisions as officials hosted the inaugural Doug Ingalls Classic on Saturday at the Genuine RV Ark-La-Tex Speedway.

Henigan won a talent-filled affair for USRA Modifieds, Grigsby powered to victory in a hotly-contested tilt for USRA Limited Mods, Justin Whitehead won the Sunoco USRA Factory Stock feature and Maddison Gaddis topped the USRA Tuners on a night that honored a living legend.

Henigan, of Marshall, Texas, started second in a stout 23-car field of ground-pounding USRA Modifieds and quickly took command.

Chassis builder and oval master Jason Ingalls crossed the stripe in second, with Jason Webb filling out the podium. Tyler Townsend and Kenny Gaddis rounded out the top five.

“It's all the car, and it sure is fun to drive,” Henigan said in typical humble fashion. “Doug Ingalls has always been a hero to everybody, so it's pretty cool to have that trophy. Hopefully, we can win as much as he did in his career.”

Finishing sixth through tenth in the USRA Modified feature were Dustin "Tater" Hyde, Lee Patton, Donnie Powers, Jake Huckaby and Dustin Henigan.

Three cautions slowed the pace while Henigan's margin of victory was a comfortable 0.98 second.

Grigsby, of Marshall, Texas, started second on a 20-car grid and led all 20 laps of his USRA Limited Mod feature. Chase Hatton charged up from ninth at the start to claim second.

Andrew Rossum filled out the podium with a solid performance in third while Aaron Roy and Coty Tupper finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

“It's special to be able to say I won the first one of these things,” Grigsby said in Victory Lane. “That is a very good looking trophy, as well. Doug Ingalls has done so much for short track racing around here, you can't even put it into words. It means the world to be able to win this race.”

Finishing sixth through tenth in the USRA Limited Mod main event were Austin Dupont, Stephen Guidry, Conner Williams, Tim Strickland and Ricky Ingalls.

Seven cautions slowed the pace, all for minor spins. Grigsby's margin of victory over Hatton was 0.889 second.

Saturday night's inaugural Doug Ingalls Classic drew an amazing 154 entries spread across six divisions, led by 35 USRA Limited Mods, 32 Sunoco USRA Factory Stocks, 25 USRA Modifieds and 15 USRA Tuners.

Nearly every race team within driving distance wanted to pay tribute to a legendary racer.

The evening kicked off as it should with a moving presentation on the start-finish Line, where track promoter Kevin Rogers presented Doug Ingalls with a symbolic winner's check and huge plaque with photos from his illustrious career.

Zach Clark also interviewed the legend, who was a little overwhelmed.

Ingalls won between 600 and 700 features in his career and was inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2012. He is, without argument, one of the region's most accomplished racers.

Summit USRA Nationals nears: The 10th Annual Summit USRA Nationals powered by Chevrolet Performance returns to the "Diamond of Dirt Tracks" on October 2-7. This year's event will feature USRA Modifieds, Medieval USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods, USRA Hobby Stocks and USRA Tuners.
