Moberly first of four races in six days to wrap up inaugural season for Dart Iron Man Challenge

MOBERLY, Mo. – The Dart Iron Man Challenge will visit the southernmost speedway of the 2010 campaign this Saturday when the tough-as-nails tour for USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars invades the 24 Raceway in Moberly, Mo., this Saturday, Aug. 28.

The event will serve as the first of four races in six days for the full-fendered American-made machines as they share the spotlight with the USMTS Modifieds.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. Saturday, with hot laps slated for 6:30 and the first green flag scheduled to wave at 7 p.m. The 24 Raceway is located 3.5 miles east of US 63 on US 24. For more information, call 573-881-8861 or visit www.24racewayinmoberly.com on the World Wide Web.

Race fans can pick up $2-off-admission coupons on Saturday at Casey’s General Stores locations in Macon, Madison and Moberly. Colt Mather and his Snicker-sponsored USMTS Modified will be meeting and greeting fans from 12-2 p.m. at the 1222 Hurley St. store in Moberly. For more information, or to find the Casey’s location nearest you, check out www.caseys.com online.

Film crews for Dirt Knights will be on hand capturing the action at each race this week and at every event during the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's General Stores National Championship presented by Bad Boy Mowers.

Dirt Knights will be an on-going dramatic series of one-hour programs that will air during the highly coveted Sunday evening time slot for 13 weeks. The much-anticipated show is set to debut in January of 2011 on VERSUS cable sports network, reaching more than 75 million households.

After two days rest, the Dart Iron Man Challenge will embark on a three-night, three-track trek through Iowa that will culminate with the crowning of the 2010 champion.

Tuesday, Aug. 31, will see the debut of the dirt-churning door-slammers at the Marshalltown Speedway in Marshalltown, followed by a return to the track where it all started – the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa – on Wednesday, Sept. 1. The season concludes with an encore performance on Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Highway 3 Raceway in Allison, IA.

Mike Van Genderen of Newton, Iowa, captured his second checkered flag of the season last week at the Hancock County Speedway in Britt, Iowa, and leads the points standings going into the final stretch. Nathan Wood, who won the season opener at the Mahaska County Monster, sits second in points followed by multi-time Super Nationals winner Steve Jackson, Mike Bergan, Greg Elliott, Ryan Leeman, Jim Mitchell, three-time winner Jake Masters, Logan Staley and Mark Elliott.

In all, 15 dates at 13 premier speedways throughout Iowa, Minnesota and Missouri dot the calendar for the inaugural campaign for the Dart Iron Man Challenge, which will accompany the popular USMTS Modifieds at each event. Made possible by support from Dart Machinery and Allstar Performance, all races will pay at least $600 to win and $125 to start the main event when 21 or more cars are checked in for battle.

The points fund carries a $1,000 top prize with the 10th-place finisher earning $100. In addition, each race will award national points in the USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Car division of the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series where the national champion will earn $700. At each event, Dart will award a $75 certificate to the winner and a $50 certificate to the ninth-place finisher.

The Dart Iron Man Challenge will score a driver’s 10 best points during the 15-race campaign toward the final year-end standings. Drivers are invited and encouraged to compete in all 15 shows, but perfect attendance is not be necessary to be eligible for the year-end points total.

A USRA license is not required to compete and/or earn points in the Dart Iron Man Challenge, but only USRA-licensed drivers will be eligible for points funds in either the Dart Iron Man Challenge or American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series.

Each event will have a qualifying format similar to the USMTS, with heat race passing points determining the “B” Main and “A” Main line-ups.

USRA rules will apply at each event. Drivers are permitted to utilize the Rochester, Motorcraft or 1Ύ Holley 4412 open carburetor but must be run with the Edelbrock Performer (Part #2701) or Weiand X-CELerator (Part ##7541) intake manifold. These intakes must be stock (no porting allowed). The 4412 carb must be stock and must be 1-11/16. For conforming to IMCA rules, the 350 carb is allowed with a 2,800-pound weight rule. Any driver running the 604 crate motor is allowed the 4-barrel carburetor.
