Shaw, Humboldt Speedway raise money for Kansas Relay For Life

HUMBOLDT, Kan. - Kenny Shaw stands underneath the Speedway's flagstand at half time, surrounded by many, many brand new items ranging from T-shirts to cooking grills, and a collection of stuff that might have been taken from the local recycler.

It's hot, but that affects Shaw not at all as he works the crowd with a zeal that may TV evangalists would surely admire:

"Ok, what we've got here is the door panel off Scott Daniels' last years Modified. Got any Scotty Daniels fans out there?" The crowd erupts in a massive cheer. "Ok, whos's gonna bid on this racer decor? Sure would look great in your shop! How 'bout 20 bucks to start?!"

Moments later, Shaw, one half of Humboldt Speedway's razor sharp PA team, has sold a piece of scrap aluminum for $100.00. This goes on for nearly an hour, and will raise neary $2000.00 for Kansas relay for life.

This is the second annual event at The Hummer, the brain child of Shaw and track owners Ron and Rhenda Whitworth. Between the Whitworth's generosity and Shaw's unflagging enthusiasm, not to mention the compasion and generosity of Humboldt Speedway fans, and the many contributions made by both area merchants, sponsors of race cars, and the drivers themselves, Kansas Relay For Life will recieve a badly needed boost in tough economic times. In addition to the money raised by the auction, a portion of each admission ticket sold was added to the contribution. Many happy fans went home with some nice merchandise purchased at a very reasonable price, not to mention some unique wall decorations.
