Chappell builds Cox Design Sprintweek point lead
KNOXVILLE, Iowa -- Zach Chappell of Talala, Oklahoma, has widened his point lead in the Cox Design and Metal Fabrication Southern Iowa SprintWeek standings after night four at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa on Tuesday. Chappell set a new non-winged sprint car track record and followed it up with a very impressive third place finish in the $30,000-to-win Sprint Car Racing Association/Non-Winged World Championship tour event. Chappell has 162 points.
Following Chappell in the race for the 8-night “Mr. Sprint Car” title, and it’s $3,000 cash prize, is Garry Lee Maier of Cimarron, Kansas, with 115 points and defending titlist Shane Stewart of Bixby, Oklahoma, with 96 points. The ‘top five’ in the Cox Design-sponsored points are Australian Kerry Madsen and Missourian Brian Brown, respectively.
Night 5 of the 8-night SprintWeek is tonight, featuring the first qualifying night of the 44th annual Knoxville Nationals, presented by the Midwest Ford Dealers, at the Knoxville Raceway. The feature race pays $12,000 to win and is sanctioned by the World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Series.
