Dylan Clinton won the USRA Hobby Stock main event.

In the midst of the dog days of summer, the action on the track at Fayette County Speedway in West Union, Iowa, matched the heat as track win leaders for the 2022 season found Victory Lane Friday night, and one driver got his first win in his first appearance at the speedway!

The highlight feature of the evening occurred in the USRA Hobby Stock class. Pole-sitter Josh Ludeking of Decorah controlled much of the race, leading the first 19.9 laps of the race, but USRA National Points leader Dylan Clinton nipped him at the line to grab his seventh win of the year.

After charging ahead seven spots in the 20-lapper to win by mere inches, Ludeking settled for second behind Clinton. Decorah’s Paul Seabrooke came home third after a strong race where he made several bids for the lead, while Daryl Moss (West Union) was fourth and Aaron Kleppe of Cedar Rapids was fifth.

For the sixth time of the season, Decorah ace Dan Hovden took the checkered flag first in the USRA B-Mod main event. Hovden started on the pole and controlled the top spot for the duration of the feature, with Protivin’s Ben Moudry earning the runner-up finish.

In third was Cresco’s Jason Schlangen, while Josh Roney of Postville took fourth. Rounding out the top five was hard-charger Ryan Thorsten of Decorah.

After a winless July at Fayette County Speedway, Decorah’s Kevin Donlan picked up the win in the USRA Stock Car feature. Donlan started first and was able to drive away from the field enroute to win No. 4 of 2022 at the speedway. A couple of Waukon drivers took second and third in Dan Jones and Brady Link, respectively, while Mitch Hovden of Decorah was fourth and Jackson Vsetecka of Fort Atkinson was fifth.

Making his season debut at the track, USRA National Points leader Oliver Monson of Thornton got the win in the USRA Tuner class. Monson had to work his way to the front after starting third, but was able to fend off track points leader Brad Stahl of Castalia for the victory.

In third was New Hampton’s Timothy Hanson, while fellow New Hampton racer Braiden Schaufenbuel took fourth. Completing the top five was Isaiah Holzer of Holmen, Wisc., as he jumped ahead six spots in the feature.
