Peyton Gallardo won the USRA B-Mod main event.

The Vado Speedway Park in Vado, N.M., was back in action for the track’s traditional Memorial Day Weekend Doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday, May 28-29, with the USRA B-Mods in action both nights.

On Sunday, Christy Barnett raced from her 13th starting spot to overhaul mid-race leader Israel Ortega into the lead with only a few laps remaining in the USRA B-Mod main event, but a green-white-checkered dash to the finish allowed ninth-starting Peyton Gallardo to race to the outside of Barnett to take the lead on the final lap and race off to his first feature win in his rookie season.

Lucas Ward was able to race from his 18th starting spot up to second at the checkered with Ortega hanging on for third at the line. Hector Barraza took fourth as Barnett, who won on Saturday, slipped to fifth.

The Vado Speedway Park will be back in action this coming Saturday, June 4, with another Hot City Nights event. Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7:30.
