KASSON, Minn. - It was the second to last night of racing at the Dodge County Speedway Sunday night. This week was fan appreciation night with $8 adult admission to the track. Erdman’s County Market of Kasson sponsored the evening's festivities.

The USRA Modified feature would decide the track points title. Josh Angst led Steve Wetzstein by one point going into the 25-lap feature. Angst started in the seventh slot and Wetzstein went from row 7 after an on-track incident with Todd Scharkey in his heat.

Tom Paulson bolted off the outside of row 1 and took off up front. A couple of early yellows kept everyone tight and then there was a long green flag run. Again, Paulson took off up front and pulled away.

The race behind him was outstanding as Arizona traveler R.C. Whitwell and Ryan York raced for second. The points battle watch was on as Wetzstein was moving up on Angst. Wetzstein steamed past Angst on lap 8 and continued his march to the front.

Paulson started working his way through lapped traffic and unfortunately it would be his demise. On lap 12, Paulson came into turn 1 and slid up into Gary Schmidt. Paulson slowed in turn 2 and his run ended as the caution flew.

York then led with Jay Ihrke and Whitwell close behind him. They had a great race going and then Wetzstein got to third on lap 13, then worked on Ihrke for second. York had pulled away a bit, but Ihrke and Wetzstein reeled him in.

Wetzstein took second and then stole the lead with around five to go. Wetzstein went on for his ninth win of the season at Kasson and the points title.

York finished a strong second and Ihrke was third.

Next week is the final night of racing and the final night of track points for all classes except the USRA Modifieds as the USMTS Modifieds invade for race #13 of 18 in the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's General Stores National Championship.
