Dog days of summer greet fans, drivers at Chateau Raceway
LANSING, Minn. - It was a hot muggy night for week 15 or racing action at Chateau Raceway powered by Miner's Outdoor Power & Rec. It was also a night of domination as five of the seven classes saw drivers pull off sweeps.
The track was two laps away from having five straight sweeps in the USRA Modified class. Todd Scharkey of Kasson, who had a heat win under his belt, dominated much of the race. He had almost a full straight-away lead 10 laps into the race when he started lapping slower cars.
A late caution with five to go closed Jason Cummins of New Richland and Mike Sorensen of Rochester up on his back bumper. Scharkey got a good run on the restart and had Cummins and Sorensen lined up behind him and was looking solid coming to the white flag when a small slip up in turn 4 cost him dearly.
Scharkey went up the hill with Cummins and Sorensen shuffling him back to what would be a third place finish while Cummins collected his third feature win of the season at Lansing.
Ben Mattick of Hayfield and Dustin Steinbrink of Austin rounded out the top-5.
Jacob Dahle of Morristown took home the other heat win.
Race time is 7:30 every Friday night at the Chateau Raceway, located just five miles north of Austin in Lansing.
