There was no shortage of entertainment in Northeast Iowa on Friday night as Fayette County Speedway in West Union, Iowa, hosted Season Championship Night.

After the dirt had settled, four USRA drivers etched their names into the history books as track champions.

In the USRA B-Mod division, only a single point separated Postville’s Josh Roney and Decorah’s Dan Hovden in the season standings.

This meant that it would come down to whichever driver finished higher in the feature race.

Hovden decided that he would make sure there was no chance that Roney could hold onto the points lead as he charged forward seven spots in the 20-lap main event to claim his seventh win of the season at FCS and take the championship.

The win was also Hovden’s 12th of the season overall, which has helped him climb to second place in the USRA B-Mod national points standings.

Colby Mann (Caledonia, Minn.) led the race through the midway point, but ended up second on the night.

Decorah drivers Keagen Einck and Kyle Anderson finished third and fourth, respectively, while Troy Hovey (Cresco) completed the top five.

Despite picking up six positions in the feature race, Roney came home sixth and ended up as the points runner-up, 18 points short of Hovden.

In the Mensink Racing Products USRA Hobby Stock feature race, it was Waterloo’s Justin Lichty who grabbed his first win of the season at the 3/8-mile track.

Lichty was able to finally get the monkey off his back as he got around Edgewood’s Dylan Clinton in the final laps the race.

Third place went to Paul Seabrooke of Decorah, while West Union’s Daryl Moss had his best finish of the season in fourth. Michael Minnier of Monona finished fifth.

Josh Ludeking (Decorah) had to work to hold off his points advantage as he was penalized to the back of the field early and worked his way through the 23-car field to finish high enough to win the track championship by 40 points over Clinton.

Ludeking ended the season with three wins at the track, which has helped get him to third place in the Mensink Racing Products USRA Hobby Stock national points standings.

Kyle Falck of Decorah notched the first win of the year in the Medieval USRA Stock Car feature as he led every circuit of the feature and fended off charges from runner-up Kevin Donlan (Decorah) and third-place finisher Mitch Hovden (Decorah).

Dan Jones of Waukon was fourth while Calmar’s Lynn Panos was fifth.

With the track championship locked up before the night even started, Hovden won the track championship by a 147-point margin over runner-up Donlan.

Hovden had eight wins on the season at FCS and 13 overall so far in Medieval USRA Stock Car action.

He also sits atop the Medieval USRA Stock Car national points standings.

The winner of the USRA Tuner feature race was Fort Atkinson’s David Balik, who got his second win of the 2021 campaign by holding off brother and runner-up Mitch Balik (Lawler).

In third was New Hampton’s Braiden Schaufenbuel while Josh Harms (Postville) took fourth and Brad Stahl (Castalia) was fifth.

Stahl claimed the track championship with four wins on the year.

With the regular season officially in the books, Fayette County Speedway will host one more race this summer as the USMTS will come to town Sunday, Sept. 5.

The Medieval USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods and Mensink Racing Products USRA Hobby Stocks will also be in action with national points being awarded.

Hot laps will begin at 5:30 p.m. with racing to follow at 6.
