Tracy Halouska won the Mensink Racing Products USRA Hobby Stock main event.

In the Mensink Racing Products USRA Hobby Stocks, the leader of the mid-pack mafia, Tracy Halouska of Worthing, S.D., took advantage of his front row starting spot taking the lead and never looking back.

Defending champion Dustin Gulbrandson of Sioux Falls was all over Halouska throughout the race. Dylan Fitzpatrick of Magnolia quickly worked from 11th into the top three to join the fun as those three drivers separated from the field and played cat and mouse all through the 15-lap event.

Gulbrandson again challenged for the lead late in the race but a caution-checkered finish thwarted his advance and Halouska got his first win of the season. Gulbrandson would garner second ahead of Fitzpatrick. Dylan Vanden Top crossed the line in fourth while points leader Tyler Schlumbohm drove from 15th to fifth.

The USRA B-Mods had a family battle up front between the brothers Johnson. The race started with Tracy Johnson and Dereck Van Veldhuizen putting on a great battle for the lead. Van Veldhuizen up top and Johnson down low traded the lead over the first four laps but Johnson finally gained control.

All while this was going on it was Tyler Johnson on the move jumping into the top four. Suddenly Van Veldhuizen lost control of his race car on the top of turn four and spun, but he managed to keep the tires going and drove out of the way as the race stayed under green.

After that, Tyler Johnson made the move into second, getting around Dave Kennedy of Sioux Falls and set his eyes on Tracy Johnson.

A caution with five laps to go made things interesting but Tracy Johnson drove flawlessly over the stretch going high in turns one and two and low in turns three and four to take the win.

Tracy Johnson from Lake Preston, S.D., and Tyler Johnson from Montrose, S.D., have their own local ties as their mother Pam (Gruis) Johnson is a Rock Rapids native.

Kennedy took home third and Van Veldhuizen regrouped from his mishap to finish fourth ahead of Kevin Joachim.

In the final race of the evening Roger Verdoorn led the opening laps of the Medieval USRA Stock Car feature with Darrin Korthals in chase. It didn’t take long for Korthals to ride the rim around the high side and take the lead away. Korthals continued to show the way with Elijah Zevenbergen making the moves through the pack and coming to the second position by lap four. He was five car lengths back of the leader at the time but closed the gap in a hurry and started to challenge Korthals for the lead by lap seven.

Korthals hung on to the edge until the hallway point of the feature when Zevenbergen snagged the lead away. A caution came out and that let Korthals reset for another shot to regain the lead, but it also allowed the rest of the field to catch up as well. On the restart Zevenbergen took off for a nice lead and Korthals was in a battle for second with Colton Arends.

Zevenbergen came to the checkers with a three-second advantage and Arends came from ninth to grab second away from Korthals, who finished third. Verdoorn settled into fourth and Rich Gregoire came home fifth.

Rapid Speedway will be back in action next Friday night with a special promoting and supporting Team KWC and car 46-7 on Kids with Cancer Night. Forty-six kids are diagnosed with cancer each day and seven earn their wings.
