Walter Hamilton won the Sunoco USRA Factory Stock main event.

The Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series got the ball rolling Friday night at the RPM Speedway for the 11th Annual Texas Spring Nationals with USRA Limited Mods, Sunoco USRA Factory Stocks and USRA Tuners joining the USMTS Modifieds during the track’s twice-delayed season opener.

Following two weeks of some of the most destructive weather in a generation, race fans in North Texas flocked to the quarter-mile dirt bullring outside of Crandall to watch 71 fire-breathing USMTS Modifieds and 200 cars between all the classes on the card.

A field of 34 USRA Limited Mods signed in to do battle and produced a wildly entertaining main event that saw polesitter Reece Solander of Iola, Kansas, hold off defending track champ and two-time USRA Limited Mod national champion Tommy Davis Jr. of Wills Point for the win.

Kaufman racers Michael Dabney and Cody Smith finished third and fourth while Jonathan Powers of Iowa Park came from the 14th starting spot to finish fifth. J.C. Howell, Justin Nabors, Josh Landers, Matt Deaver and Steven Ashcraft completed the top 10.

Thirty-eight Sunoco USRA Factory Stocks came to tame the RPM Speedway, but nobody could tame reigning USRA national champion Walter Hamilton as the Dallas driver sped past Justin Whitehead midway through the feature race and drove away to seal the victory.

Runner-up honors went to Neil Kemp of Mineral Springs, Arkansas while 14th-starting Jason Gore of nearby Seagoville held off Texarkana’s Whitehead for the third position. Waco’s Melvin Kemp Jr. was fifth with sixth through tenth going to 17th-starting Kyle Blanton, 18th-starting Dalton Faulkner Chris Davis, Jeff Hammitt and Billy Vest.

In USRA Tuner action, Bondy Cannon of Mineral Wells topped the other 20 entries while Mesquite competitors Daniel Thompson and David Thompson took second- and third-place money. Lubbock’s Keagan Haralson made his long tow pay off with a fourth-place finish while Gage Anderson of Quinlan rounded out the top five.

Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series racers will bang wheels again Saturday with another $10,000-to-win USMTS main event on tap. Pits open at 3 p.m., grandstands open at 4 and racing starts at 6 p.m.
