Racing returned to Wichita Falls, Texas, on Friday as the Monarch Motor Speedway kicked off the 2019 Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series with a strong field of cars and drivers that gave the fans a pair of nail-biting, down-to-the-wire finishes.

Smooth driving and consistency paid off for Dustin Robinson of Post, Texas, with a victory in the USRA Limited Mod main event.

Robert Elliot led the first two-thirds of the race before having to duck into the pits during a caution. He clawed his way back to the front of the field, and gave Robinson a run for him money before settling for second place.

Brandon Decker, Josh Cournoyer and Rob Bland rounded out the top five.

With rain in the Dallas area forcing cancellation of opening weekend for the USMTS, the Monarch Motor Speedway fans saw some heavy hitters hit the high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval.

In fact, the feature came down to a wild finish between a pair of two-time USMTS national champs.

Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa, garnered the pole position for the start of the race and led every lap, but not before Texan Rodney Sanders ran down 'The Reaper' and challenged him on the final lap before coming up a bit short and taking the runner-up finish while Gustin pocketed the $1,000 top prize.

Cole Traugott, Logan Robertson and Kale Westover completed the top five.

Racing resumes next Friday March 22, at the Monarch Motor Speedway with USRA Modifieds and USRA Limited Mods back in action alogn with Stock Cars and Mini Stocks.

The USRA Factory Stocks will make their debut at the track formerly known as Wichita Speedway and Red River Speedway.
