After a one-week delay from Mother Nature, the long-awaited grand opening of the U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo., took place Friday night with three classes competing in the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series.

Out-Pace USRA B-Mods put on a race of epic proportions, entertaining all in attendance. Daniel Harris took the early lead as great side-by-side, three-wide racing took place behind the leader. Harris was not be shaken and put his car in victory lane. Shadren Turner mounted a late-race charge to place second with Doug Keller charging through the pack to place third. Tim Eaton was the big mover of the race as he came from the back to finish fourth, and Tony Layne ended the night with a top five finish. Heat race winners were Harris, Wes Bestgen and Turner.

Holley USRA Stock Cars rolled onto the race track 15 strong on this night of competition. Dean Wray took the early lead and never relinquished it, picking up the opening night win. Wray was challenged early by Alvie Christofferson who had to settle for second with a hard-charging Thomas Roberts in third place. Mich Ross battled it out with Aaron Sauter to claim the fourth spot. Heat race winners were Wray and Christofferson.

Then it was time for those high-flying, fire-breathing, alcohol-drinking USRA Modifieds to take to the track. Mark Dotson used a front-row starting position to propel him out front in the early stages of the feature. Dotson continued to lead, holding off all challengers on his way to the win. Dotson was challenged by Zach Sanders who finished second and Gunner Martin who came home third on the night. Nick Pence ended the night with a solid fourth with Shayne Bailey rounding out the night's top five. Heat race winners were Sanders and Bailey.

U.S. 36 Raceway would like to thank all drivers and fans for making opening night a booming success. We would like to thank all of our sponsors for the added purse and congratulate the kids on winning the bikes during intermission. See everyone in on Friday, May 19, at the U.S. 36 Raceway.
