DECORAH, Iowa—There’s no place like home, and that never rang more true than it did Sunday evening when the USRA Iron Man Series invaded the Upper Iowa Speedway.

Decorah residents Mitch Hovden and Troy Hovey made the short drive home with the hardware during the 9th Annual “Donnybrook in Decorah” at the 3/8-mile clay oval on the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds.

With a standing-room-only audience looking on, Hovden swapped the lead on two occasions with Shay Curtin during the early stages of the Holley USRA Stock Car 25-lap feature.

Hovden—a three-time Holley USRA Stock Car national champion—outran fellow Decorah driver and current Iron Man Series points leader Kyle Falck during the final laps to secure the $750 victory.

Dan Jones came from 17th on the starting grid to finish third, and Lynn Panos snuck by Steve Jackson on the final lap to claim the fourth spot.

In Out-Pace USRA B-Mod action, Hovey—the 2013 national champ—snagged the lead at the drop of the green flag and fended off several challenges to grab a hard-earned $600 winner’s share of the prize money.

Another Decorah ace, Dan Hovden, finished about a half-car-length in arrears to Hovey to finish in the runner-up position.

Parker Kessel claimed third, Sam Wieben was fourth and Casey Knutson rounded out the top five finishers.

Cresco’s Scott Spilde triumphed in the USRA Hobby Stock feature race. Justin Hanson, Benji Irvine, Paul Seabrooke and Shawn Randall wound up second through fifth, respectively.

Four days from now, the USRA Iron Man Series is back in action with both classes competing Thursday, June 2, at the Sioux Speedway in Sioux Center, Iowa, and Friday, June 3, at the Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa.
