Champions named at Upper Iowa Speedway

DECORAH, Iowa—Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Upper Iowa Speedway had to push back its Season Championship show from Saturday to Sunday.

The causes for the delay: wet track conditions and a power outage.

Heading into the show on Sunday evening, Dan Hovden had already sealed up the track championship in the USRA B-Mod division, but that did not stop him from capturing both a heat race and feature win.

Hovden drew pole for the main event and led every lap en route to his first career USRA B-Mod track championship at the Upper Iowa Speedway.

Hovden was also crowned track champion at the Fayette County Speedway in West Union just a week ago.

Chris Weigert earned the runner-up honors, followed by Chris Roney, Kyle Anderson and Casey Knutson.

The USRA Hobby Stock track championship was up for grabs on Sunday night.

Heading into the show, there was a slim margin separating Steve Holthaus and Steve Larson.

When the dust settled at the end of the feature event, Brady Link found himself in victory lane for the first time this season at the Upper Iowa Speedway.

As for Larson and Holthaus, Larson crossed in sixth place and Holthaus finished in fourth. Therefore, Larson was crowned track champion by a narrow margin of just three points.

Holthaus claimed track runner-up, followed by Link, Josh Ludeking and Andy Stinson.

Heading into Sunday, Mitch Hovden had a pretty good handle on the USRA Stock Car track championship but Kevin Donlan was knocking at Hovden’s door and had a slight chance to be crowned king if things went drastically bad for Hovden.

As the last laps of the season at the Upper Iowa Speedway were ran, Lynn Panos took home the checkers after a last-lap battle with Hovden.

Even though Panos took home the trophy on championship night, Hovden took home the track hardware.

Donlan took second in the points, followed by Panos, Dillon Anderson and Derek Detttmann.
