ARCADIA, Wis. (May 31, 2002) - Kevin Adams benefited from a timely caution and some tried and true experience in car set-up to pick up his first feature win at Fox Ridge Speedway friday night. The second year super stock driver had been disappointed in his performance at the track and was looking to make some adjustments.

"I called Curt Meyers during intermission to get some advice on set-up, we've got basically the same car that he ran last year, and he was super fast here. I needed to make some changes 'cause we didn't get anywhere in the heat race. We ended up changing the whole car around for the feature," said Adams.

Adams started on the pole for the feature and quickly went backwards. "I got up into the loose stuff(on turn one) and just went backwards," he said. Troy Brand gathered his mount together and ran off to an early lead. Brand was challenged by Ben Anderson and Adam Stockhausen in the early laps. Adams on the other hand, slipped out of the top five.

Brand led the first 13 laps holding Anderson at bay. Adams, Dan Nissalke, and Shawn Huse were fighting through he middle of the field. A lap 13 caution brought the field together and gave Adams a second chance. "I saw the black 22 car (Nissalke) working the track below me, and on the restart decided to give it a shot and go to the bottom. I was gonna give it a shot or go to the back. I stuck the car down there and it just stayed there," Adams said.

The lead three of Brand, Anderson, and Stockhausen all went to the top on the restart and the shuffling of positions began. Adams went low and he and Brand raced side by side for the next three laps when Adams completed the pass on lap 16. A couple laps later Nissalke and Huse used the bottom to slip by Brand and the race was history.

"If it wouldn't have been for that restart, we would never have won. I didn't think I had anything more than an eighth place car, Adams said. Brand finished fourth and Jason Johnson was fifth.

Isenberg cops first checkered in lates.

Rookie late model driver Steve Isenberg's learning curve keeps getting sharper. The Marshfield, Wis driver beat Eric Pember off the line and led all 25 laps in the late model main.

Isenberg credited car builders Jimmy and Chris Mars for helping secure his first late model victory. "I spent all week on the phone with Chris Mars trying to figure out how to get some more side-bite in this race car. I couldn't believe how much they helped me. I did exactly what they said and the car was perfect. Just perfect!

Isenberg also used his heat race experience to aid his win. "Eric (Pember) caught me sleeping a little bit in the heat race. He just went right by me on the bottom. I didn't think there would be that much bite down there. When the feature started, I was on the bottom and I just stayed there.

Isenberg ran off with the top prize, but behind the drivers scrambled for position. Mark Teske and Brad Waits waged a great battle for third with Teske getting by on lap eight. A caution on lap 13 slowed the field but Isenberg raced off unchallenged. Pember, Teske, Waits, and Tom Nesbitt rounded out the top five.

Isenberg moved up the late models this year after spending several years in the modified division." This years been way beyond my expectations , I was hoping to be able to run in the top ten once in awhile. We've run in the top five just about every time out. I can't thank Chris and Jimmy Mars enough". Isenberg started his career at the old Marshfield Speedway and says that he loves coming to Fox Ridge because it reminds him of the old half-mile.

Bradford sixth different street stock winner

Randy Bradford's string of bad luck came to end in the street stock feature. Bradford had been victimized by mechanical failures the past couple weeks. Bradford returned in fine fashion, becoming the sixth different driver to claim a street stock feature. Pole sitter Tom Brust led the first four laps trailed by Shawn Wehlage and Bradford. Bradford and Wehlage flew past Brust on lap five. Wehlage was glued to Bradford searching for a passing opportunity when he looped his car in turn four on lap eight.

Bradford's next challenges would come come from current national points leader, Jeff Brauer and former track champ Travis Krause. A lap ten yellow for Andy Bohnstengle bunched the field, but Bradford got a great jump at the restart and put some distance between himself and Brauer. Krause passed Brauer on lap 13 but ran out of time in the 15 lap feature. Dan Gullickson placed fourth with Brust fifth.

Newcomer books mods

Steve Wetzstein used a daring lap nine pass to defeat Les Duellman and a host of locals in the 20 lap modified feature. Wetzstein trailed Duellman for nearly the first half of the race when he pulled the "old slide job" in turn four. A lap later Bob Timm followed and looked to garner his first mod feature of the season. Timm was using the high side to gain ground when on lap 11 he went out with a broken drive shaft.

Wetzstein paced the field for the duration of the feature as Eric Pember, Rick Hauser, and Bruce Angst jousted with Wayne Engen for three through six positions. Pember was able to secure third on lap 14 from Engen. Hauser and Angst both managed to pass Engen in the last two laps. Rookie John Doelle had his best run of the season finishing seventh after starting 17th.
