Return to old number brings back Myers' magic

KASSON, Minn. (Aug. 5, 2001) - A regular night of racing was on tap on a very hot and sticky night at the Dodge County Speedway on Sunday, August 5th with a good group of racers on hand for the event.

The Street Stocks were up first with Steve Goodenough taking the lead at the start, but Jeff Brauer and Kevin Adams began to pressure him steadily for the lead. The trio ran in a close pack throughout the entire feature event with Brauer eventually slipping by into the lead after the half-way point of the event.

Once Brauer got out front, he began to be pressured by Adams and Goodenough, but was up to the challenge and raced to his second feature win of the weekend and added to his track and national point lead in the process. Goodenough was able to hold off the constant challenges from Adams to claim second at the stripe after a race-long battle.

Carter Gerlach has been on fire lately at Dodge County in his # 27 G Midwest Modified and once again stormed to the feature win tonight. Gerlach was under siege by Chad Herman for much of the feature, but Herman could not muster up enough to get by for the win.

Jim Arnold came from the fourth row to battle with Herman near the end of the feature event for second, but Herman held his ground and raced to a second place finish behind Gerlach, who made it two straight wins at DCS. Curt Myers returned to his familiar # 1m this past week and his recent bad luck changed seemingly magically tonight as he lead every lap to record his 9th Super Stock feature win of the season. Myers took the lead at the start of the feature and rode the cushion to victory, but not without constant, heavy pressure from Nick Herrick throughout the entire race.

Herrick ran very solidly on the bottom of the speedway and pulled alongside of Myers on several occasions throughout the show, but after several late-race cautions slowed the field, Herrick's momentum was halted as he got a bit sideways in turn two on the last lap, allowing Mark Teske and Mark Wytaske to sneak by to claim second and third respectively.

Todd Scharkey returned from a several week absence with a vengeance tonight as he stormed from row 6 to the front and claimed the feature win in the IMCA Modifieds. Steve Wetzstein got to the front first on lap 4 and looked as is he was going to make it three in a row until Scharkey showed his hand on the bottom side of the speedway and wrestled the lead away from Wetzstein on lap 9.

The duo ran door to door for several laps until Scharkey was able to pull out to a bit of an advantage over Wetzstein, who was not under pressure from Mike Sorensen for second. Sorensen also was running very quickly on the low side of the track and was also able to slip by Wetzstein late in the race to claim second, but Mike could not seriously challenge Scharkey for the win as Todd went on to pick up the checkered.

Racing resumes this Sunday at Dodge County with the first green flag set to fly at 7pm for WISSOTA Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and IMCA Modifieds.
