DECORAH, Iowa—USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods will share the spotlight this Thursday, July 3, when the Iron Man Challenge series invades the Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah, Iowa, for an explosive kickoff to the Independence Day holiday.

Presented by Jet’s Meat Processing, the winner of the USRA Stock Car main event will pocket $750 and drivers taking the green flag in the main event get no less than $100. USRA B-Mods will be battling for a top prize of $600 and $75 to start.

USRA Hobby Stocks will also be in action, along with Hornets and the Liquid Nitro-Xcel 600 Modified Series. Hot laps start at 6 p.m. with racing to follow.

Tom Schmitt of Independence is a two-time USRA Stock Car national champion and captured the 2012 Iron Man championship for the division.

‘The Tall Cool One’ comes into Thursday’s blockbuster event as the current points leader after chalking up four wins and seven top-five finishes in ten starts.

Steve Jackson of Polk City, who garnered two IMCA Stock Car national titles and five Super Nationals wins before stepping up to the USRA Stock Car ranks, sits second in the standings followed by ‘Crazy’ Phil Wernert of Galesville, Wis., and a pair of Decorah drivers—Mitch Hovden and Kyle Falck.

Dan Wheeler of Savage, Minn., sits atop the USRA B-Mod standings in the Iron Man Challenge, but will be looking to notch his first Iron Man win this Thursday at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds.

Jared Timmerman of Norwalk holds down the second spot, followed by defending series champ Cory Crapser of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; Jacob Bleess of Chatfield, Minn.; and Jake Richards of Edwardsville, Kan.

Licensed USRA drivers in both classes will also earn national points in the USRA Weekly Racing Series at every Iron Man Challenge event.
