RACINE, Minn. (May 25, 2002) - Kelly Shryock Lemars, IA used a late caution to get around Todd Sharckey Kasson, MN to pick up his third win of the season in USMTS north region action on Saturday night.

Shryock started the race from sixth row inside. Steve Wetzstein West Concord, MN and Kevin Peters Monmouth, IL battled it out at the start of the race with each driver swapping the top spot more than three times the first eight laps. Wetzstein would finally take the top spot and look to have the race under control when Todd Sharckey would move his Pierce modified out to the higher groove and move around Wetzstein and put some distance between each other.

Wetzstein would finish the race 12th . A very long run Sharckey had put twelve car lengths on the field and was looking to run away from the field when a late caution would bunch the field up for one last run. Shryock was right on the tail of Sharckey at the start. Late in the race the race track really came together up a couple grooves and Sharckey had no idea as he was running the bottom of the track.

A lot of spots changed the last run before the checkered flag flew on lap forty.

Tim Donlinger Rochester, MN looked to have the fastest car at the end of the race was going to pass Shryock and Sharckey when Shryock moved up the track and Donlinger had to brake from hitting the wall. Donlinger would finish with a strong third place finish. Rounding out the top five was Dan Chapman Clarence, IA and Jason Hughes Colcord, OK. Harris Auto Racing heat races were won by Wetzstein, Sharckey, Les Duellman, Tommy Myer, and Mike Hernke. The Holley Performance B-mains were won by Mick Glenn and Jason Hughes. The best crowd of the season at the Deer Creek Speedway witnessed some great side by side racing and was entertained by fifty-two of the best modified drivers in the midwest.

The north region now moves to the Dodge County Speedway in Kasson on Sunday night May 26th for the final night of the weekend for the USMTS. After the second race the north region point standings have changed with Tim Donlinger taking the top spot and Jason Hughes second.
