Timm's double duty wins continue

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (Aug. 17, 2002) - On Pepsi/D.A.R.E. night a very strong crowd was on hand for a rather unseasonably cool night. Many jackets were brought out early in the night with a few blankets wrapped around other before the end of the night. When the races were completed temperatures were hovering in the middle 50's. A few months ago the diehards would have been wearing a light jacket but it almost felt like it was time for coveralls tonight. Morgan Bushman was the lucky winner of a new bike given to a lucky winner during the nights drawings presented by Pepsi & D.A.R.E.

The Midwest Modifieds were up first for their feature with the second row starter Kenny Wytaske pulling alongside Jeremy Laures on the first lap. Coming out of four on the second lap Laures slipped up letting Ryan Weber, and Neil Eckhart to get by. Two laps later Eckhart moved past Weber to take over the second spot as the only caution of the race flew. On the restart Weber and Eckhart resumed their battle as Wytaske started to pull away. Scott Anderson and Jesse Frericks battled hard for the fourth spot through most of the feature. Up front it was Kenny Wytaske with his second feature in a row and his seventh feature win of the season at the track.

The super stocks were up next for their feature race with Mark Teske and J.B. Stortz sharing the front row. On the first lap there was a great battle for the second spot with J.B. Stortz, Cole Queensland and Bill Clemens running three wide for position behind Teske. Coming out of two on the next lap Queensland got a little out of shape and dropped back a few positions as the top 5 start to pull away from the rest of the field. Stortz held the advantage and after six laps Clemens pulled along side again. Mark Wytaske was on a move form his fourth row starting spot and ran side by side with Stortz for a lap until taking over the third spot. A caution flew and on the restart Wytaske pulled past Clemens into the second spot. On the next restart four cars stacked up in corner four for the last caution of the race. On the restart Mark Wytaske came to life and went around the high side of Clemens for the second spot and battled with Teske for the next five laps until he took over the top spot. Clemens battled hard with Teske for the next couple laps but upfront Wytaske was dominate on his way to his second feature win of the season.

The modified feature was the third feature to hit the track. Bruce Angst used the pole position to jump into the early lead with the rest of the field running three wide for the first two laps. First caution came out as Mike Sorensen spun to the infield. Bob Timm worked into the top spot after the restart as the second caution of the race flew for Jay Poindinger and Jim Arnold spinning in corner two. On the restart Angst and Jay Ihrke had a great side by side battle for the third position. The tow battled for four laps until Ihrke got the advantage. The driver on the charge at this point was LeRoy Scharkey who after going to the back for an early incident was one of the first cars to start to make the high side of the track work well. By the end of the feature everyone was up on the cushion with Bob Timm taking home his fourth checkers of the season in the modifieds.

After a little misting of the track the WISSOTA Late models were up for their feature. Bob Timm and Mark Teske shared the front row. Teske ran the bottom of the track and pulled into the lead with Timm running the high line around the track. As Timm pulled along side on lap four Teske looped the car into the infield on corner four. The Late Models were on the edge tonight and there were four cautions tonight as the second one came out two laps after the restart. The final caution came out when a good battle between Jeff Patchen and Jeff Hinkemeyer got together with Hinkemeyer going up and over the front end of Patchen. Lance Matthees was trying everything to get to the front but running both the high and low side of the track but was unable to make any significant charges up through the field. Bob Timm cruised home to the checkers for his seventh feature win of the season at the track and his fourth double duty win of the season at Deer Creek.

The street stock feature found Jim Gustafson on the front row. Greg Erickson moved right in behind Gustafson on the start of the feature with close racing through the front half of the field for the first three laps. After running strong in second Erickson pulled up in corner two and coasted into the infield ending his night. Jeff Brauer started to work towards the front and ran side by side with Prudaehl for the second spot. Steve Eischens followed closely and came up to do battle with Prudaehl for the third spot. The rest of the feature found some great racing action between Devon Sutter, John Bushman and Chuck Nerland for the fifth spot. At the checkers it was Jim Gustafson with his fourth straight win and his eleventh feature win of the season.

A small car count for the Modified Lites was on hand tonight with Tate Bestor jumping into the early lead. A strong move from Dave Lewison on the third lap saw him drive low under Dan Wendt and Bestor to take over the top spot. Lewison was on a rail tonight and pulled steadily away from the field. Jeff Jech started last on the field tonight as slowly worked his way up to the fourth spot. At the stripe it was Lewison with his first win of the season.

The track championships are winding down quickly, in the street stocks Jim Gustafson has a lock on the top spot with Jeff Brauer 80 points behind in second and Bushman 80 points behind Brauer for the third spot. In the Midwest Modifieds Neil Eckhart has a virtual lock on the top spot with Nick Kramer 80 points behind in second and Dan Fagerlind 25 points behind Kramer. The Super stocks are close for the top two with Bill Clemens holding the spot and Dave Haberman 30 points behind in second. Mark Teske is in the third spot 70 points behind Haberman. The top spot is a little closer in the modifieds with Buce Angst holding the point and Jordan Steier 40 points behind him and Dave Siercks 20 points behind Steier. The Late Models have a great battle going on into the final night of racing with only 5 points between Teske and Waits. Ben Mattick is in a close battle with Jon Chrest for the third spot some 80 points behind the leaders.

Next week is the final track point night for the Late Models and the Modifieds. Deer Creek is holding a USMTS show on the 31st with the Late Models taking the night off and no track points for the modifieds. That night will be the last point night for the street stocks, Midwest modifieds and the super stocks. With the season winding down quickly get out to your favorite tracks and enjoy the racing action.
