Allen conquers Keeter in USRA Modifieds at Humboldt
HUMBOLDt, Kan. -- The lights at the Humboldt Speedway finally got to click back on Friday night in what seemed to be a months since the last show. The pits filled up fast as drivers from all over the area make the trek to 'The Hummer' for an action-packed night of racing.
The night kicked off with the normal heat races and the track looked to be in prime shape for hammer down style of racing. With all the rain the last few weeks a few small bumps kept forming in turns 1-2 but track officials kept them under control throughout the night.
In USRA Modified action, it looked to be as if Mitch Keeter was going to get his first win at Humboldt. He was challenged all race long by Brian Bolin who made his debut in a new Intruder race car. Bolin had mechanical problems late, which ended his bid for the win.
With a few laps left, it was Keeter, John Allen and Ryan McAninch the top 3. The USRA Modifieds had a "B" feature to settle up the last eight starting spots before of the "A" feature. McAninch did not have the heat race he had hoped for after picking up the win a few weeks ago, but he came out strong in the "B" ferature, coming from tail back to win.
McAninch had made his way all the way to the front of the "A" feature from rear of the field, but also had problems and retired from the race.
Allen, waited for a line to open and got his chance coming out of turn 2 when he rocketed on the top to pass Keeter and go on to take another win.
Keeter settled for runner-up followed by Kansas City driver Justin Johnson, who came from ninth. Travis Smith had a solid run, coming home fourth, with Paden Philips also coming out on the "B" feature to finish fifth.
Next week we will have a regular race. Daisey Duke and Cowboy Boot Night has been moved to May 31.
