USRA Modifieds highlight April 13 opener as NAPA Speedway begins new era

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The NAPA Speedway on the wwest side of Albuquerque, N.M., opens the 2013 racing season this Saturday, April 13, and fans will not only see some huge improvements to the facility, but also the debut of the USRA Modifieds at the 3/8-mile dirt oval.

Charlie Fegan, who formerly the International Hot Boat Association, took over Jan. 1 as the new promotere of the 13-year-old racetrack which sits on 90 acres on the far side of Nine Mile Hill, and has big ideas for the 13-year-old racetrack.

According to Fegan, more than $700,000 in improvements have been designated for a paved parking lot, adding more bleachers and more.

The facility opened in May of 2000 as Sandia Motorsports Park and includes two paved ovals (0.25-mile and 0.46-mile), a 1.6-mile 14-turn road course, dirt motorcycle track, dirt sand drags, 4/10-mile semi-banked asphalt oval and 3/8-mile semi-banked dirt oval.

The first race of the season is slated for Satruday, April 13, and willl feature USRA Modifieds plus several other weekly classes. Gates open at noon with racing action to start at 3 p.m.
