Dale drives to HMT victory at I-35 Speedway

Dakota Dale won the USRA Modified main event.
The I-35 Speedway in Winston, Mo., welcomed the USRA Heartland Modified Tour presented by Real Racing Wheels on Saturday, with three Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series divisions in action.
From the inception of the USRA Heartland Modified Tour, there have only been a few drivers to make all the shows. Dakota Dale, one of those drivers, hit the jackpot on Saturay. Driving his Mullens Chassis, Dale was not only fast, but smooth and patient.
Late in the race, Friday's winner, Shadren Turner, was rolling out front. It looked like he might walk away with a weekend sweep. Then mechanical gremlins intervened, and the yellow flag flew when Turner slowed while leading.
“I just have to thank all the amazing people who help me on this thing,” said an excited Dale in Victory Lane. “I learned a lot about three and four right there in the first lap and about gave it away right there. I wasn't the fastest race car tonight. Shadren had us beat. Heartbreaker for those guys.”
Dale assumed the lead and held onto it through the Hochatown Saloon Last Call.
Right behind Dale there was a furious scrum for second. Bobby Williams put the charge in his Skyrocket and nearly clipped Brandon Givens at the VP Racing checkered flag. The distance between the two at the line was less than four hundredths of a second. The two each recorded their best finish of the season with the tour.
For Dale the win is also his first ever in outlaw-style dirt modified action. He won a couple limited field events, but it was a career night for the young up-and-coming racer.
Turner's misfortune tightened the points drastically. Although early in the season, he is still the leader by 18 markers over Givens. Tad Davis is third. Dale sits in fourth and Jason Pursley rounds out the top five. Those top five are separated by less than 50 points.
Next up for the HMT, it's a trip to Salt City Racing in Hutchinson, Kan., on Friday, April 25.
On Saturday night, the USRA Stock Car feature was won by Doug Keller from Easton. Jaylen Wettengel from Topeka, Kan., placed second, with Tyler Cadwallader from Amazonia in third.
Rodney Schweizer from Kansas City, Kan., finished fourth, and Mich Ross from Maysville completed the top five.
In the USRA B-Mod feature, Lonnie Hibner from Chillicothe took the victory. Chad Clancy from Polo finished second, followed by Adam Dunwoodie from Polo in third.
Daniel Harris from Excelsior Springs secured fourth, and Londen McClure from St. Joseph rounded out the top five.
The I-35 Speedway returns next Saturday, April 19, for Dirt Track Racin' at its Best with Casey's Night featuring nine classes on the card including USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods.
