Wettengel, Davis down Lakeside Speedway foes
Kerry Davis won the USRA-Bod main event.
Friday night at the Lakeside Speedway during the Karl Tinsley Memorial, USRA Stock Cars took to the fast, smooth track and put on a show as Jaylen Wettengel and Chris Dishong battle for the front.
Wettengel got the lead early and saw challenges from Gene Claxton and Dave Oxford but was not shaken and continue his assault on the field and stayed out front.
Claxton was the big mover and challenged late to take over the front but Wettengel swept the night winning both heat race and feature to celebrate in Nextran Victory Lane with his colony (group of penguins).
Claxton placed second with Dishing third. D.J. Barnes had a solid night racing to place fourth with Brian Peters rounding out the top five.
USRA B-Mods never disappoint as Kerry Davis and Kyle Henning both scored heat race victories to start up front for the feature.
Davis took the lead early with Henning and Tim Karrick challenging every lap. Karrick settled into second and set his sights on Davis.
Davis changed his line from top to bottom and Karrick seized the opportunity, charging by to take the top spot. But Davis moved back to the top line and started to close in until Karrick developed mechanical issues which took him from the race.
Davis regained the lead with Henning showing muscle as Mark Schafman in the Sammy Schuler prepared No. 44S slid into the picture to challenge Henning for second.
John Baker raced to the front, settling into fourth as the laps wound down with Brian Andrews in the mix as well.
Davis drove a nearly flawless race and saw the checkers first, claiming his first win at Lakeside Speedway in 2024.
While Davis celebrated, Henning place second with Schafman third, Baker fourth and Andrews fifth.
Lakeside Speedway would like to thank all drivers, fans, crews and staff for another stellar night of racing action and family fun. Special thanks to Tim Gifford, Jan Gifford, Larry Waters, Ralph Palmer, Tonya Palmer and Ron Zink for helping pass the free tickets to all our veterans and active military in attendance.
Great opening ceremonies as we honored the Tinsley Family and prepared for our races. Special thanks to all drivers that allowed me a few minutes of their time to interview in the pits prior to racing.
See you all next Friday night for the Ellis Family Memorial.
