ARMS heads to Louisiana

Following a pair of Oklahoma shows a couple weeks ago, The USRA American Racer Modified Series Presented by Day Motor Sports heads to Louisiana Friday and Saturday for a pair of shows.

On Friday, the Sabine Speedway, hosts the tour. Under new ownership of Todd McKeller and Shane Hebert, Sabine looks to continue on the success of Bubba Jones, who was the prior operator.

“I have had to learn on the fly a lot,” said Hebert. “There is a ton going on behind the scenes I never saw, even for racing as long as I have. I have went from wanting to have a good car every week to wanting to have a good track every week. I'm still racing, but have re-prioritized this year, just to make sure we all know what it takes to run this place.”

They haven't been without challenges this season. Rain has really played a big role in the overall landscape of the year.

“We've rained more than we've raced. I have had to go pull the track backout of the infield after every one of our big showers so far. It takes a few weeks to get it back after that happens. Through it all the track has been really good and racey.”

Hot laps at Sabine are slated for 7:45 p.m. with racing to follow.

Saturday shifts to USRA staple Boothill Speedway in Greenwood. Having previously worked at both Sabine and Boothill Speedway, this season Bubba Jones will focus solely on Boothill along with ownership partner Ralo Pilkington.

“The location, history and historic fan counts we're definitely a determining factor in purchasing the track,” said Jones. Our big goal here is to end up with a top notch facility. We are currently investing all profit and then some directly in to make continual improvements to the place.”

One of the big changes was the new backstretch wall which made the racing much better overall.

“We just want to keep booking bigger events all the time and make sure everyone knows about the place. USRA Modified competition has become so tough, I am really looking forward to some good racing for sure!”

Saturday, hot laps are slated for 7:30 with racing shortly after.

Joe Duvall leads the way, looking to secure his second straight series title. Philip Houston rides in second place, 90 markers out. Sam Osman, the most recent series winner holds down third. Chase Hatton has been consistent all year in fourth and coming on as of late Trevor Hughes has pushed to fifth.

Both races this weekend will be live on RacinDirt.tv and RaceOn for those unable to be at the track.
