Wettengel wins Gary D Memorial at Lakeside

Jaylen Wettengel won the USRA Stock Car main event.

USRA B-Mods never disappoint at the Lakeside Speedway, and Friday night was no different with Jake Richards, John Baker and Shadren Turner all winning their heat races.

Turner used a front-row starting position to charge out front as Richards had trouble from the drop of the green, sending him to the hot lane for repairs.

On the restart, Kerry Davis charged to the top of the track only to have trouble as well and taking him from the race.

Turner saw a challenge from both Aaron Marrant and Chad Clancy while take their turns battling for the top spot. Tim Karrick made his presence felt among the leaders with Patrick Royalty moving to the front as well.

Turner would not be denied, however, picking up the feature win with Marrant second and Clancy third on the night. Karrick claimed the fourth spot as Royalty crossed the line a solid fifth.

Heat race winners in the USRA Stock Cars were Nick Whalen, David Oxford and Jaylen Wettengel, setting the stage for a stellar feature.

Oxford found speed early, looking like the car to beat until mechanical issues took him from win contention while Wettengel took over the lead. Wettengel saw challenges from Randy Foote, Kacey Shields and Darren Schmidt throughout the feature.

Mid-race saw a red flag as Mike Wahwahsuck flipped in turn three. He exited the car sore, but otherwise uninjured with a damaged race car.

Foote challenged Wettengel to no avail, leaving him and Shields to battle for second. Chris Dishong was in the hunt until he made contact with the wall in turns one and two, ending his night.

Gerald Wahwahsuck had problems in turn three and suffered hard contact, taking him from contention as well as the race progressed. Nick Whalen was among the leaders until his hood flew up blocking his vision taking him to the hot lane for repairs as Wettengel "bicycled" on two wheels in turn one but settled the car down and continue his march to Nextran Victory Lane.

Foote crossed the line second with Shields a close third. Darrin Schmidt placed a solid fourth with Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, driver Andy Morris rounding out the top five.

Lakeside Speedway would like to thank all the drivers, crews, fans and staff for another great night of racing action and family fun. We apologize for the postponement of our fireworks display as we will obtain the correct permit as required and proceed.
