Davis chalks up third win at Kasson

KASSON, Minn. -- It was an action-packed night at the Dodge County Speedway on Sunday. There was some pretty competitive racing and several drivers added to their win totals.

Brandon Hare used his first row starting spot and took the lead in the USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mod feature. Hare left the field in his wake when he opened up a huge lead. Jason Schlangen settled into the second spot while the race for third was good. Billy Steinberg, Troy Hovey and Shaun Walski had an excellent three-car skirmish for that position most of the race.

At the checkered flag it was Hare to the line first for his second victory of the season. Schlangen finished in second with Hovey third. Walski came home fourth and Kylie Kath picked up a top five finish.

The USRA RHS Modified nightcap was a dandy that had fans on the edge of their seats. A lot of fans come to see the Modifieds and they got their monies worth in their 25-lap feature.

Josh Angst and Bobby Swanson brought the 17-car pack to the green flag. They went side by side with Brandon Davis close behind them. Swanson was up on the extreme high line while Angst was nailed to the bottom.

Swanson zipped past Angst for the lead while Davis was right on them. Angst returned the favor on lap 7, but Swanson again got some momentum on top and regained the lead. Then Angst and Swanson were even on laps 7-10 with Davis right on them.

Swanson got the advantage on lap 11 and Davis was now all over Angst for second. The three  were still very close on lap 13. Davis and Angst were neck and neck on lap 15 and the leaders were now in lapped traffic. Davis got to second and now challenged Swanson while they diced through the traffic.

Davis shot low on Swanson on lap 16 and then they went three wide with Gary Schmidt when they put him a lap down on lap 18. That forced Swanson to check up just a tad and Davis stole the lead. Davis took off but the battle was still intense for the top 5. Todd Scharkey came alive in the final laps and got cranked up on the top of the track.

Davis zoomed to his third win of the season while Swanson got second. Scharkey got to third and everything got shuffled up behind him when the lead pack was trying to negotiate Bob Gierke who suffered a flat tire. Steve Wetzstein got to fourth when Angst went to the infield to avoid Gierke. That allowed Jason Cummins and Tommy Myer for fifth and sixth at the line.
