MEEKER, Okla. -- Fred Mattox earned his first career victory in USRA Sprint Car racing Friday night at Brill's Motor Speedway.

The youngster from Drumright won the opening heat then drove off the pole to top a 19-car field in the 20-lap main event. Mattox led every lap unchallenged, pulling away from second place Jimmy Taylor in the closing laps.

Taylor held on to second and was followed across the line by Brent Swift, Brandon Jennings and Colton Brewer to round out the top five.

A total of 84 competitors were on hand Friday and 21 of them entered the USRA Western Flyer HotMod division. Terry Osborn led Dustin Buntin across the finish line for what appeared to be the win, but a post-race inspection found both Osborn and Buntin illegal.

The two were disqualified for the night and that handed third-place Shawn Jorski his first win.

Johnny Reed Jr. restarted near the rear after being involved in a yellow, and then charged his way to the front for the victory in the USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Car feature. Jeremy Allen was a close second while early leader Brian Wolfe fell to third.

Jay Sale raced to his second victory of the season in the USRA RHS Modified feature. Sale won over Doug Bragg and Tulsan Chad Davis who finished third.

Brill's Motor Speedway will be closed this coming Friday night, July 8, but racing will resume in a big way the following Friday, July 15, when regular points racing resumes with USRA Sprint Cars, USRA Western Flyer HotMods, USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars and three other classes in action while the USRA RHS Modifieds will have the night off. Race time is 8 p.m.
