Six events dot July calendar for Iron Man Challenge

OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- Six events are in the books for the Iron Man Challenge featuring USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars and USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods, with 10 different winners emerging from 11 feature races so far.

Stock Cars had a solo event at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., on May 28 with Kevin Donlan picking up the win. The B-Mods will run without the Stock Cars on July 14 at the Chateau Raceway in Lansing, Minn.

The season opener at the I-35 Speedway in Winston, Mo., was a meeting of the Matts with Matt Greiner winning the Stock Car main event and Matt Lettow topping the B-Mod portion of the show. Lettow has led the points ever since and garnered his second win this past Friday at the Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, to become the season’s first repeat winner in either class.

Defending Iron Man Challenge Stock Car Champion and 2006 USRA Hobby Stock National Champion Nathan Wood took the win at the Highway 3 Raceway in Allison, Iowa; 2007 USRA Hobby Stock National Champion Mitch Hovden was the winner at the Nobles County Speedway in Worthington, Minn.; Chris Ulrich triumphed at the Mineral City Speedway in Fort Dodge, Iowa; and Jake Masters captured the most recent event last Friday at the Rapid Speedway.

It was the defending USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mod National Champion, Brand Hare, earning the trophy at the Highway 3 Raceway, with Nick Johansen winning at the Nobles County Speedway and Cayden Carter coming out on top at the Mineral City Speedway.

Six more events dot the calendar for the month of July, including three nights of racing action at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

On Monday and Tuesday, July 11-12, the Mahaska County Monster will host the 15th Annual Great American Stock Car Challenge. Stock Cars will race for $700 to win Monday and a $1,500 top prize on Tuesday while B-Mods will battle for $500 and $1,000 to win, respectively. USRA RHS Modifieds and USRA Hobby Stocks will also be on the card each night.

The Iron Man Challenge will join the USMTS Modifieds for the final four shows in July, beginning on Thursday, July 14, with its first visit to the Chateau Raceway, followed by a tripleheader the following Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, July 19-21.

The rain-postponed event at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa, happens on Tuesday, July 19, and the Iron Man Challenge returns to the Southern Iowa Speedway the next day before wrapping up the July swing at the Bloomfield Speedway in Bloomfield, Iowa, on Thursday.

Seventeen dates at twelve dirt ovals comprise the 2011 schedule for the second season of the Iron Man Challenge. Points for both classes will be awarded based on a driver’s 10 best nights, so with ten or more races still remaining for both the Stock Cars and B-Mods the fight for the title has not even begun yet.

The points fund for the Stock Cars carries a $2,000 top prize with the tenth-place finisher earning $200. In the B-Mod class, the points champion will earn $700 with tenth-place taking home $100. Licensed USRA drivers in both classes will also earn national points in the USRA Weekly Racing Series where the Stock Car National Champion will earn $1,500 while the B-Mod National Champion will take home a cool $2,000 for his efforts.
