HUMBOLDT, Kan. -- Midway through the 2011 season at Humboldt Speedway, things are more interesting than ever.

Beginning last season, rumors of "tire doping" began to surface at various dirt tracks across the nation. The USRA mandates the use of a one-size, one-compound tire, designed both to be more economical and make everyone more competitive. Thus, a softer tire would give a driver a decided advantage over those who did not have them.

Reportedly, several big name drivers over the country and many lesser stars have been tested and found to be using chemically-treated tires. To date, no one has been caught at Humboldt.

Nonetheless, testing of the top three finishers in Friday's feature, plus one car selected at random, were ordered. After a very intense race, winner Johnny Bone Jr., runner-up, John Allen and third-place finisher Brian Bolin were all asked for tire samples to be sent to a lab for testing. Scott Daniels was selected at random and asked to submit a sample too.

The USRA mandates a loss of season points and a large fine for any driver found to be out of spec. Results of the rubber tests will not be available for at least a week, so this week's results are, at press time, unofficial.
