HUMBOLDT, Kan. -- It's been a bit of an unusual season so far at Humboldt Speedway.

For one, Sunday's Dwaine Whitworth Memorial was the first really comfortable day of the season weather-wise, despite gale force winds.

And who would have guessed that Justin "Whitey" Folk would have been winless two months into the season?

When the USRA RHS Modified feature began, Bill Siemers of Valley Center, Kan., motored away from the field. Behind him battled an elite group of drivers, most of whom had risen from the "C" and "B" features.

After 17 laps of a 25-lap race, Siemers had a comfortable lead with Folk - who was one of the elite few to make the feature out of the heats - in second and John Allen in third.

Out came a caution, which bunched up the field. At the green, the unstoppable Folk of old suddenly came to life and powered away from pack over the next eight laps to record the win.

Questioned post-race, Folk explained that what was percived to be several "improvements" in chassis design made over the winter hadn't really panned out. Thus, he had recently reverted to his tried and true set up which had, at last, led to the winners circle.

Siemers, meanwhile, went on to finish second in what had to be a satisfying yet disappointing effort.

Allen turned in a fine performance, finishing third after winning the "B" feature and starting deep in the field.

Likewise, Paul Snyder and Ryan Whitworth both raced their way into the big show and finished fourth and fifth.

Coming up on Friday, June 3, 'The Hummer' will host it's annual Old Timer's Reunion. Legends from the past will gather to exchange stories and memories, both with fans and each other.
